Dana Smith Wins Claremont Modified Feature.

Claremont Speedway, Claremont, N.H. 1/3 mile, Saturday August 26,2017
At the Claremont Speedway in the race against cancer, competing race teams raised a total of  15,500 dollars for the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Darthmouth-Hitchcock.
In the Casella modified 35 lap feature Sunapee NH resident Dana Smith over came adversity early in the day with his regular ride and brought out his backup car to end up in the winners circle.
Smith started from the pole but the win wasn’t an easy one as he had to fight off challenges of Brian Robie (Charlestown NH) for the first thirteen laps until Jeff Murray (Claremont NH) took over the number one spot for a hand full of laps. Smith roared back after a late caution but Murray applied major pressure getting to the outside of Smith after a lap 27 restart. The two raced side by side until Smith prevailed and went on to the win with Murray settling for the runner up spot.
Smith said, “We got lucky on that one, I dont like cautions when I’m out front, but Jeff passed me there, he had the car to beat tonight. So after that caution I had to protect the bottom, but my car was getting tight and kept washing up in the turns, I was trying to keep it on the bottom. It was a good race, Jeff ran me clean even tho he was faster than me, I appreciate that.
With our Claremont car I didn’t think we lost the motor but it started smoking in practice, so we ran home and got this one. (tour type mod.) We didn’t get any practice on it, we just threw together real quick and just hoped for the best and we got lucky, real lucky.”
Driving a smooth and consistent race Dylan Rock (Enfield NH) in the Jack’s Racing Engines sponsored #47 was the hard charger of the event starting from the 8th place and took over third with only a hand full of laps to go to finish on the podium.
Chris Bolton, Nick Salva, Todd Patnode, Brian Robie and Brandee Tree rounded out the top eight.
In the T-Bird Mini Mart Wild Cats, Zack Lynn (Claremont NH) bested a potent field to take down the victory with Kodi Sabins (Winsor VT) second and Kyle Currier (Charlestown NH) rounding out the top three.
Kenny Thompson (Alstead NH) took over the lead on a lap 14 restart in the Pepsi Limited Sportsman feature and led Joe Tetreault (Enfield NH) and David Greenslit (Claremont NH) across the finish line for his third win of the year.
In the highly contested R.E.Hinkley Super Streets, points leader Ricky Bly (Sunapee NH) wasted no time charging to the front and taking over the lead from Dylan Bodreau (Claremont NH) on a three wide pass on lap seven. Jack McClay (Claremont NH) chased Bly to the checkereds with Bodreau a close third.
