Northeast Racing Legend Ron Bouchard Has Passed Away.

Very sad news today about a racing legend, Ron Bouchard has passed away. Ron’s friend Tom Ormsby announced his passing this morning on Facebook.

Ron’s career began in 1963 and spanned several decades including many modified wins up and down the east coast at tracks like Thompson, Stafford, Westboro, Seekonk and Waterford.  His biggest modified win came in 1980  when he captured the prestigious Thompson 300.

In 1981 he moved up to the highest ranks of Stock Car racing, the  NASCAR Winston Cup. His lone NASCAR Cup win was in the 1981 Talladega 500, the win was one of the greatest upsets in NASCAR Cup history and helped earn him 1981 rookie of the year honors.

Ron’s last NASCAR Cup race was in 1987 and he was elected into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame in 1998.

After racing Ron opened up Ron Bouchard Auto Store in home town of Fitchurg.
