O’Connell Scores win number two of 2018!

Saturday night at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH Devin O’Connell of Madison, CT set the pace after a caution on lap 4 and led the remaining 96 green flag laps of the JBH 100 and took his second victory of the 2018 season. O’Connell had intense pressure from the #1x of Todd Stone from Middlebury, VT. O’Connell and Stone battled fiercely through lapped traffic, allowing one of the local favorites Mike O’Sullivan of Sixteen Acres, MA to catch up to the top two.

“This victory means so much to our small team” O’Connell said. “Finishing 9th in the past two races, we went through the entire car to make sure we wouldn’t have a similar result, and the hard work paid off as tonight the car was an absolute rocket ship.” “It feels so good to get back in victory lane especially after such a tough but clean race with Todd Stone, I’m just so glad we were able to take home the checkered flag today.”

At the top of the charts all day during practice and time trials, Todd Stone used some of his dirt track experience as he was sideways, three wide early on the bottom of a battle between Barry Gray and Ray Christian III. “It’s been a challenging year on the dirt side, we’ve lost 3 motors this season, so we were really looking for a solid result tonight” Stone said. “I think we had a good car, and if the top two positions were reversed I don’t think we could have passed each other. I could have dumped O’Connell but I don’t race like that, it was nice to come home second.”

One of the local favorites Mike O’Sullivan started deep in the field in 10th position, with 25 laps to go, O’Sullivan was touching bumper covers with second place Todd Stone, an impressive run for sure. “A restart would have been good in the later stages but, it would have been tough either way” O’Sullivan said. “It was an awesome race to be part of, thats the way it’s supposed to look and we should all be proud of the show we put on.”

Second in points Joey Doiron of Berwick, ME had a solid race finishing fourth and last seasons JBH 100 winner Josh King of Vernon, VT rounded out the top 5.

The next event is on Sunday of Oktoberfest Weekend, at Lee USA Speedway October 7th.

Patnode Grabs Fourth Valenti Modified Series Win At Monadnock

Winchester, NH. – Local favorite Todd Patnode continued his winning ways Saturday night capturing the Valenti Modified Racing Series  ‘Fenton Family Dealerships 100’ presented by Mayhew Tools in front of a large crowd at Monadnock Speedway.

The win was the former Monadnock track champion’s second this season and his fourth series win. His most recent trip to victory lane was last month, July 7.

Patnode, driving the Gomarlo’s Supermarket, Gary’s Power Equipment, # 24, started 16th in a 26-car field and patiently worked his way to the front taking the lead from pole-sitter and leader Richard Savary on lap-73 to go on to victory.

“The car was good – I had more than enough pressure from behind,” Patnode told the crowd post race. “This car has been good here – we’ve been fortunate.”

The local’s prevailed again at the famed high-banked oval. Brian Robie, of Sunapee, NH, enjoyed his best finish last month until a second place finish in the VMRS final appearance at Monadnock for 2018.

“This is amazing. Of course when your racing Todd at Monadnock you might as well be racing for second place it’s like a win in my book,” said a happy Robie.

“He looked a little bit tight- I was a little bit loose. It was almost a good battle at the end but I wish I had a little bit more for him. Respectfully Robie made it clear he was pleased to finish “up next to him.”

The Monadnock home field advantage once again prevailed. Knowing the track considered by many as ‘tricky’ gives those with many laps of competition a little bit of an edge. Robie explained, “ You get so used to that groove. You know how far to drive it into the corner- how to drive it through the corner-and be able to save the tires.”

Sammy Rameau, of Westminster, MA completed the podium with a solid third place finish and moved into second place in the point standings after last weeks Waterford CT. race. “ Third’s always not the best but it’s good when your points racing like this and pick up points on the leader.” Rameau explained.  “ It was a good run I don’t think I saved it enough. I don’t think anyone had enough for Todd.”

Chase Dowling, of Roxbury, CT, finished fourth, with Woody Pitkat, of Bellingham, MA, rounding out the top five.

Matt Mead, Russ Hersey, Mike Willis Jr, Joel Monahan, and Dylan Izzo, finished sixth through tenth.

19 cars of the 26-car field finished on the lead lap.

Valenti Modified Racing Series Visits Monadnock Saturday

Canaan, NH. –  The Valenti Modified Racing Series will put the wraps on their three race dates at Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH, this Saturday night as the track hosts the ‘Fenton Family Dealerships 100’ presented by ‘Mayhew Tools.’

Wednesday afternoon, 24-race teams indicated they plan to compete in the event. Weather forecasters say the outlook is expected to be rain free.

As always the case with the Monadnock oval, the series roster carries names familiar with the tricky high-banked oval, drivers that have enjoyed success throughout their careers there. This weekends field — more of the same. The hometown edge is always a factor at ‘Mad Dog”

Todd Patnode, of Swanzey, NH, a three-time VMRS winner, recently on July 7, will be part of a contingent looking to keep bragging rights close to home. The same can be said for Russ Hersey, also of Swanzey, looking for his third series win. 31-time winner Kirk Alexander, another Swanzey entry will compete.

Series newcomer Joel Monahan, rookie of the year contender Cameron Sontag, Mike Willis, Jr, Brian Robie, Dana Smith, Matt Mead, all have Monadnock experience and are seeking their first victory.

Series point leader and reigning champion Anthony Nocella, Richard Savary and Derek Robbie, will compete. Dylan Izzo, runner-up at Waterford, CT, last week, will make his first series start at Monadnock.

Fenton Family Dealerships will be conducting a Food Drive at the speedway to support The Community Kitchen. Fans that bring a canned food item will receive $5.00 off Adult or Senior admission.
