WET WEATHER CANCELED WALL STADIUM AUTO RACING FOR JULY 9

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~            Showers in the morning and forecasts for afternoon and evening rain  forced Wall Stadium Speedway officials to cancel the auto racing events scheduled for Saturday night (July 9). Saturday night auto racing will resume in one week on July 16.

When racing action returns on July 16 the third mile paved oval will host “Pack the Track” night with a special discounted admission price of just $10 for adults and $5 for students aged 7 to 17. Kids 6 and under are always free.

On the speedway seven feature races will be presented with the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks competing in three 25-lappers, the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars racing in two 25-lappers, the Snap On Sportsman cars racing in a 30-lap main event and the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models batting in a 25-lapper.

SNAP ON NIGHT RACING FEATURES CONE RACES AT WALL STADIUM THIS SATURDAY (JULY 9)

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Auto racing fans have a big event to look forward to this Saturday (July 9) with four divisions of racecars competing in “cone races” during Snap-on Tools Night action. Current plans call for spectator seating on this “Beach Luau” themed night to open at 5:00 p.m., with qualifying slated for 5:45 p.m. Main event action will follow around 7:00 p.m.

On the famous third mile high-banked paved oval the Downs Ford Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap main event. The Snap-on Sportsman racers will compete in a 50-lap main event, the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks will battle in a 25-lapper and the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks will also battle in a 25-lap main event. All four feature events will be cone races.

In a “Cone Race” a traffic cone is placed on the backstretch at the one-to-go sign for a restart. Any driver can choose to go inside the cone or outside the cone. If the first four drivers choose the inside, for example, the fifth place driver can choose outside and move up to the front row. Does a driver take the preferred inside groove and restart further back on the inside, or does he or she choose the shorter line of cars on the outside and hope he or she can make it stick? That’s the issue each driver will face on each restart.

A large contingent of guests from Sportsman division sponsor Snap-on Tools will be on hand to enjoy the action and winners of main events will earn gifts from Snap-on while several fans will also enjoy giveaways.

Also on the card will be a special “mechanics’ race.”

Saturday’s schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying will then begin at 5:45 p.m. and feature race action for all divisions is slated for 7:00 p.m.

OKERSON HOLDS OFF BLEWETT FOR WALL MODIFIED WIN SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Four time Downs Ford Modified driving champion Chas Okerson of Freehold held off Howell’s Jimmy Blewett Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway to win the Independence weekend 40-lap main event. It was Okerson’s first win of the season and the 17th of his Modified career.

Okerson jumped to the lead early with Chris Reynolds of Howell, Jackson’s Jason Treat and Howell’s Ken Woolley each taking turns early to run second. Meanwhile Blewett was charging from the rear of the field and arrived in the runner-up spot on the 13th circuit.

The final 27 laps of the contest offered a constant fight for the lead. On several occasions cautions for minor incidents slowed the action and lined Okerson and Blewett side-by-side on the front row for the restart. Okerson was able to slip back into the on every one. Woolley crossed the finish line third with Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Jackson’s Steven Reed completing the top five.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been here,” Okerson said referring to the fact that his last win came in May 2015. “Actually I was happy to see some lapped traffic in the closing laps of the race. I thought that might help me put distance between and Jimmy. I also want to dedicate this win to our family’s Aunt Weezer. She passed away recently and we all really miss her.

The Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks were in the spotlight in twin 25-lap main events with Mike Carr of Wall taking the win in the first contest in his first ever race in the division. Wall’s TJ Graves, Todd Pilla of Beachwood, Brick’s Jason Lane and Darianne McLaren of Edison wrapped up the top five. Darren Burdge of Jackson won the second 4 Cylinder Stock 25-lapper over Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, N.Y., Pilla, Lane and McLaren.

Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan ended a bad luck streak by winning his first 30-lap Snap On Sportsman main event of the year. Matt Langbein of Laurence Harbor slipped into second in the closing laps with Dom Fattarusso of Brick, Howell’s Kevin Davison and Jarrett DeGiantomasso finishing third through fifth.

Kevin Nowak of Medford, N.Y. won the 25-lap main event for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars beating friend and fellow New Yorker Richie Davidowitz to the finish line. Louie Keraitis of Toms River was third, with Howell’s Robert French and Malcolm Campbell of Eatontown finishing fourth and fifth.

Cole Ormsbee of Wall won his second Elite Maintenance Limited Late Model 25-lapper of the year over Bayville’s Mike Tillett, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen, Jackson’s Glen Conk and Michelle Moorman of Beachwood.

Stock car racing continues this Saturday night (July 9) as the speedway presents Snap On Tools night. On the track the Modifieds will return in a 40-lap main event, the Snap On Sportsman cars will compete in a 50-lapper, the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the 4 Cylinder Stocks will battle in 25-lappers and a special Mechanics Race will be presented. Grandstand seating opens at 5:00 p.m., qualifying starts at 5:45 p.m. and feature racing begins at 7:00 p.m.

The complete regular season schedule, which runs on Saturday nights through the end of September, is available at wallspeedwayracing.com as are the rules and regulations for all divisions. Post-season events, the “Spooky Spectacular” in October and the Thanksgiving weekend “Turkey Derby,” are also being planned.
