The New London Waterford Speedbowl Will Be Rocking This Weekend

WATERFORD — There’s a reason why the final racing weekend of the season is being called the Bemer’s Super Bowl of Auto Racing.
It’s going to be the ultimate racing weekend, with the highest cash purses ever paid out at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
What started as a show with just several divisions has mushroomed into a 12-division, big money show.
The centerpiece is the Tri-Track Open Modified Series. More than 44 full-powered Modifieds have already entered.
That’s just the main course, however. It will be a two-day racing feast that will include all nine of the Waterford Speedbowl weekly series, plus the New England Race Trucks and the Granite State Pro Stock series. Another added attraction will be the 19th annual SK Modified Nationals, with $5,000 going to the winner.
“We’ve had a very successful season and no one wants it to end,” Speedbowl GM Shawn Monahan said. “Drivers kept asking us if their divisions could be part of the final weekend. So we are accommodating them.
“The bottom line is that this is the biggest weekend ever at the Speedbowl. Everyone is talking about how great the Tri-Track Series race was on Sept. 13, and almost all of the drivers are coming back, plus several who weren’t with us in September.”
The Tri-Track series is just one layer of the cake.
“The Battle of the Sound Legends race is paying $2,000 to the winner, the biggest first-place purse ever offered in Connecticut,” Monahan said. “And there was so much interest, we had to add 2 consi’s and a B-Main. The enthusiasm is unbelievable.”
