After a very popular and successful Back To School Monster Truck Night of Destruction at Riverhead Raceway last season track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz are excited to announce the event will return next Wednesday August 28th led by the most famous name in the Monster Truck game Bigfoot! Aside from the “freestyle” car crushing action Bigfoot & friends will provide a five division stock car program will be presented led by the 3rd annual Laura Zegel Memorial 55 Street Stock race plus Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars.
Joining the Ford giant Bigfoot on the Monster Truck roster for the midweek spectacular will be Badnews Travels fast who wowed the Riverhead fans back in July along with Student Driver and Hurricane Force out of the KSR Motorsports promotion. Aside from crushing cars the quartet will also perform slap wheelies, get some big time are and cyclones for fans old and young to join alike. With school slated to open the Wednesday/Thursday after Labor Day on Long Island the Back To School Monster Truck Night of Destruction at Riverhead Raceway is a sure fire way to end summer vacation with bang.
After inclement weather forced postponement of the 3rd annual Laura Zegel Memorial Street Stock race August 7th the race will be contested this Wednesday evening with $555 awaiting the winner of the contest before any lap or other bonus money is factored in. Defending SS champion David Antos of Lindenhurst is also the reining Zegel 55 race winner and if he is to repeat he’ll have to contend with the likes of 2019 championship leader Eric Zeh of Selden, Wesley Sammon of Southampton, Brian McCormack of Holbrook, Chris Lescenski of Riverhead, Anthony Pizzo of Lake Ronkonkoma and Jay Henschel of Levittown among others.
The Blunederbusts will go 25 laps with the two main championship contenders Tom Pickerell of Huntington and Cody Triola of Bay Shore leading the division into action while defending Super Pro Truck champion Mark Stewart of Riverhead leading that class into a 30-lap feature event. Among those chasing Stewart, the current championship leader will be Lou Maestri of Deer Park with the former multi-time champion winning twice in the month of August. A 25-lap INEX Legend Race Car event will also be presented with “Big Money” Richie Davidowitz of East Moriches hoping to increase his championship advantage over Eric Hersey of Commack. The night will conclude with another wild 8-Cylinder Enduro featuring wall to wall racing action in the division and cars that started the then Enduro craze at Riverhead Raceway back in 1986.
Wednesday August 28th will see qualifying start at 6:30 pm with opening ceremonies to follow immediately. Pit gates will open for competitors at 4:00 pm with practice running from 5:00-6:00 pm. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 pm. Adults are $30, kids 6-12 $10, 5 & under free.
