Five different divisions took to the 1/6th mile Mountain Creek Speedway Sunday afternoon to close out the 9/11 memorial weekend at the speedway by the creek. There was a moment of silence in remembrance and a playing of Taps for those who lost their lives on this 20th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. Competitors all donned commemorative decals on their karts honoring those we’ve lost.

In the Cadet A-main, Cameron Hyler took his second win of the 2021 season. Hyler started on the outside pole and never looked back in the 15 lap main event. Tucker Nash and Ellie Messer completed the podium. Fourth and fifth were Lilly Ihrke and TJ Pursley. Chase DeMarco and Brexton Busch battled for the top spot most of the race in the beginner box stock division. DeMarco lead the majority of the race until he left the bottom open coming off turn four, opening the door for Busch. The son of the NASCAR Cup Series Champion survived two quick, late race restarts to hang on for the win. Beckham Malone was third while Reed Cregger and Jackson Darnell completed the top 5

It was an exciting day for the Thomas family. Cole Thomas was the man to beat as he came through the field in the box stock main event. Thomas then used a series of restarts to work his way past Gavin Marlin, Karter Beattie then Wyatt Miller for the top spot. Thomas then held on for a final green-white-checkered restart to take his first win of the 2021 season. Wyatt Miller and Gavin Marlin occupied the top three. The win was made all the more sweeter for the Thomas family as youngest son, Easton won the Cadet B-main.

Defending Open division track champion, Lou Mattesen continued to extend his point lead in his quest for the Yamaha 450 Stock championship. Mattesen lead wire to wire and parked it in the Kelly Stewart Agent, Farm Bureau Insurance victory lane. Travis Stanley finished second for the second week in a row. Sam Miller, Adam Stewart and Nick Hatton comprised the top five. Colt Currie picked up his sixth win in a row and seventh so far this season as he lead flag to flag in the open division. Speedway owner and promoter Adam Stewart while mechanical troubles sidelined Justin Barger who was declared third.

The next and final race on the 2021 schedule for outlaw karts at Mountain Creek Speedway will be Champions Night October 10th. Gates open at 1pm with practice starting at 3pm. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year.
