June 11th and 12th will be the long anticipated, Ed Watkins Marine Weekend of Speed at Mountain Creek Speedway. Coming off the success of last years event, track sponsors Ed and Vonda Watkins of Ed Watkins Marine are hoping to make this event an annual staple at the speedway by the creek. The weekend will begin with Flat Karts competing on Saturday night with over a dozen divisions of racing and will conclude Sunday afternoon for winged outlaw karts.

“We had so much fun last year that we are so honored and blessed to be back for the second annual Ed Watkins Marine Weekend of Speed at Mountain Creek Speedway.” stated Vonda Duke Watkins, Co-owner of Ed Watkins Marine. “We know the heart and soul that goes into the speedway by Adam and Rebecca and we are so honored to be a part of that positive energy. Mountain Creek always exudes affordable wholesome family fun, a strong moral and ethical foundation for competitors, and a community driven atmosphere. As always, we look forward to seeing top notch racing at all levels, and pray for the safety of all competitors, racetrack personnel and spectators.”

“Big Ed”, as he’s affectionately known started his racing career coming out of a stint playing college football, then going to work for Hendrick Motorsports as NASCAR Hall of Famer, Jeff Gordon’s jackman. Over the years Ed Watkins worked for numerous drivers at teams, eventually winning three Daytona 500’s as a crewman and three NASCAR Cup Series Championships. Today the Watkins family competes at Mountain Creek Speedway with son, Rhylen Watkins in the Box Stock division.

“We’re very excited to have Ed Watkins Marine come back on board again this year.” said track owner and promoter Adam Stewart. “Last years event was a lot of fun which turned into one of our most popular races. We’re proud to have them back again and keep growing this race to keep it on the calendar year after year.” Last year’s event saw a beautiful weekend of racing with the track decorated with fishing and luxury boats as well as a new line of UTV/side-by-sides from Ed Watkins Marine. Ed Watkins Marine is located at 3333 NC-16 Business in Denver, NC.

Gates will open Saturday June 11th for flat kart racers at 3pm with practice beginning at 5pm. Sunday outlaw kart competition will see gates open at 12:30pm with practice beginning at 3pm Those who can’t attend can tune in live on mountaincreekspeedway.tv When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets.
