N. Woodstock, NH — In one of the quickest hundred-lappers of the season at White Mountain Motorsports Park, North Dartmouth Massachusetts-native Derek Gluchacki took down the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 100, race number two of the Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series. Jason Wyman, Jack Hayes and Shane Sicard also took down wins on a hot, wild night in North Woodstock.
First on the track in feature action was the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers for their 35-lap feature event. Led to green by White Mountain veterans Matt Potter and Jody Sicard, the new faces of Thunder Road Street Stock competitor Taylor Hoar and Mike Sweeney joined in the fray. After the field settled in the first caution flag flew on lap 16 for the spinning Cooper French and Jeff Oeschger. Sophomore competitor French would also bring out the second caution on lap 18 as he slid through the infield to rejoin the race, sending dirt flying into turn one.
Following the second, and final, caution, the top four were under a blanket all around the race track as brothers Shane and Jody Sicard fought tooth and nail for the lead beside each other with youngsters Kaiden Fisher and Tanner Woodard hot on their heels. With five-to-go, Shane had the clear lead with Woodard following him underneath Jody Sicard and that is how they remained under the checkered flag. Kaiden Fisher would finish fourth with Mike Clark in fifth.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis would follow with their 25-lap feature action led by Jack Hayes and first-year competitor Jason Goodbout, Jr. The green to checkered, caution-free event would see Jack Hayes take off and never look back to take down the win followed by Donnie Baumgardner and Les Washburn to round out the podium.
The Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars proved to be a highlight of the night, for better or worse, with their 25-lap feature. Led to green by longtime competitor Chad Dufour and Joey Deguio. The small open wheeled rockets were off and running until their first caution on lap 19 for the spinning former champion, Andy Hill. The next caution on lap 21 saw Dufour, Deguio and Ben Bosowski slam into the turn three tire barriers.
The final four laps were a dogfight between former champion Jason Wyman, invading Justin Harris, Hill and Dave Gyger. Harris chose to use his bumper to make his way through the field, finally through Wyman in an attempt to take the win but was disqualified as he crossed under the checkered flag for Contact with Intent. Jason Wyman took the win, to the cheers of the crowd on hand, with Hill taking second and Jeff Ainsworth taking third.
Finally came the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 100, round two of the three-race Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series. Utilizing the American-Canadian Tour plus/minus handicap system, one driver in each of the three heat races earned a ‘+5,’ meaning they had each passed five cars during their 15-lap qualifying rounds. White Mountain rookie point leader Ryan Ware sat on the pole with six-time ‘King of the Mountain,’ and defending Governor’s Cup winner Stacy Cahoon on his outside. In third started Spring Board 100 winner Derek Gluchacki, the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series point leader.
After taking the green flag, Ware and Cahoon took the first thirteen circuits side-by-side until Cahoon finally got out in front of the rookie on lap 14. After the first caution on lap 30 for the spinning Reilly Lanphear, Cahoon and Ware again set the pace, side-by-side until the second caution on lap 39 for Ben Belanger dangerously stranded on the pit road ramp. The Cahoon verses Ware battle continued at the restart as St. Johnsbury’s Kasey Beattie joined the party in third, charging on the outside of Ware for second-place. As the White Mountain masters took off, Derek Gluchacki once again found himself in the top three by the halfway point at lap 50.
The top-10 were nose-to-tail, inches apart from one another, as the world’s fastest freight train until Williston, Vermont-driver Mike Foster went hard into the turn three tire barrier for the third caution of the event. The restart introduced a new policy to the ACT Sanctioned as the Lucky Dog rule was first instituted for Reilly Lanphear, being the first lap down car on the track and being returned to lead-lap status. This time the restart was Stacy Cahoon versus the young Kasey Beattie, neck-and-neck as they sped around the White Mountain high banks. Cahoon would lead lap 65, Beattie 66, before the two got a little too rambunctious and allowed Gluchacki to power up the outside groove around them.
Followed by multi-time track champion Quinny Welch, Gluchacki was far from in the clear. As the three-car-breakaway of Gluchacki, Welch and Beattie paced the field, they stayed glued to each other around the bullring until the final caution on lap 92 for the spinning Jesse Switser in turn four. Gluchacki would choose the outside on the restart, Welch to his drivers-side and took off to claim the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup eight short laps later. Gluchacki is now two-for-two and solidly the Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series point leader while Quinny Welch would take second on the track followed by Kasey Beattie.
White Mountain Motorsports Park returns in a huge way on Saturday, July 30th with the 5th annual Milton CAT Midsummer 250 for the American-Canadian Tour. Headlined by the 250-lap, $10,000-to-win event, the four-division undercard includes the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis, Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Trucks. The Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250 will also be recorded by the MAV-TV Motorsports Network and broadcast on the channel later this year.
