The earth will shake, rattle and roll beneath Riverhead Raceway Saturday July 16th when the first School Bus Demolition Derby of 2022 will be presented completing a full card of Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Racing. The Crate Modifieds and Super Pro Trucks will run their second of three races of the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series on the eight division race card that includes a Kids Big Wheel Race.

Over the years the School Bus Demolition Derbies have provided young and old a like plenty of thrills and spills and Saturday will be no exception. The mere sight of the mammoth 13-ton machines pulling onto the track is a sight to behold, but then the sounds that emanate when the buses slam full bore into each other brings the experience to another level. Among those expected to compete are “The Punisher” Paul Fox of Riverhead in his tribute bus to late track owner Eddie Partridge. Expected to join Fox are “Mac Chicken” Rob Savoy of Medford, “Cheesebox” Michael Rommeney of Bohemia and brother “Kev-O” Kevin Rommeney of East Meadow, who by day is an actual MTA bus driver in Brooklyn, New York.

For their second Miller Lite Triple Crown Series event the Crate Modifieds will go 40-laps and qualify via time trials for the event. Owen Grennan of Glen Cove won the rain shortened MLTCS Crate event back on June 18th when the race was halted on lap 25. Grennan and other championship contenders Eric Hersey of Commack, Mike Albasini of Flushing, Michael Berner of Patchogue, AJ DeSantis of Yaphank, Terry Stiles of Rocky point, Alex Colasanto of Selden, Sean Glennon of Northport, Charles Macwhinnie of Southampton and Mark Wolf of Shirley will all be in contention.

Sean Glennon won the MLTCS opener in a 30-lap affair back on May 21st., this week the SPT again go 30-laps, qualifying through time trials and it’s expected Glennon will be in the field once again pulling double duty. Sean is second in the 2022 title fight to Jack Handley Jr of Medford, the defending champion with Jimmy Rennick Jr. of Howard Beach, a winner earlier this year a close third. Matt Triola of Bay Shore, Lou Maestri of Deer Park, Mark Stewart of Riverhead, Ethan Brown of Floral Park, Frank Dumicich Sr of E. Quogue, Joe Cerabino of Bay Shore, Rob Corwin of Greenport, Daniel Creegan of Farmingdale and Liam Patrick of Brightwaters all are expected to compete.

Completing and opening the program will be the third Kids Big Wheel Race of ’22 with the Figure Eights, Street Stocks, INEX Bandolero Bandits & Outlaws and a Gut & Go Enduro. The NASCAR Modifieds start a two week vacation on July 16th and return for the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 on Saturday July 30th.

Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm Saturday, adults are $30, kids 6-12 $10, 5 & under free. Opening ceremonies are set for 6:00 pm and be proceeded by qualifying at a time TBA.
