GW Promotional Group and Lee USA Speedway are proud to present the third race of the Whitcomb 5 Series this Friday, July 15, at 6 p.m.. The Truly Hard Seltzer 125 will essentially mark the midway point of the Whitcomb 5 Series for the 2022 season – and the race for the championship battle is starting to heat up.

With tight competition at the top of the standings, and a new, exciting announcement surrounding championship weekend at Monadnock Speedway in September, anticipation is at an all-time high for the Whitcomb 5 Series.

With the upcoming event just a few days away, GW Promotional Group is announcing today a major shakeup to the points battle for 2022.

With championship weekend set for September 16-17 at Monadnock Speedway, there will now be five drivers in the championship finale round, fitting perfectly with the Whitcomb 5 Series name. The addition of a fifth driver to the championship field means the final round will include at least one driver who must “point” their way into the event. The finale round will be similar to the Final Four format seen across the sporting world, where the driver who beats the other four on the track that night will be the champion. In this case, it will be a total of five drivers, not just four.

The winner from the first four events will be locked into the finale and one other driver will be added who did not win, but accumulated the most points. If only two or three different drivers win, the remaining spots will be filled by points to make five drivers.

This makes it a sure fact that every single lap and every single segment matters for the next two events. The Whitcomb 5 Series events are split up into two different segments – with the first set for 75 laps, followed by an optional one-tire change, and a 50 lap blast to the finish. At the end of the first segment, the leader collects 10 points, followed by 9 points for second, 8 points for third, etc., through the top-10. These points will matter to competitors even more now.

“We feel this is going to be the best move to allow someone who didn’t win to get into the championship round and reward their consistency,” Gregg Whitcomb, owner of GW Promotional Group said. “The Whitcomb 5 Series is centered around the number five – with five events – and adding a fifth driver to the finale is exciting for us. We’re looking forward to watching drivers battle for the right to race in the championship round. The final weekend at Monadnock is going to be something special to watch as we crown the Whitcomb 5 Series champion for 2022.”

Heading into Lee USA Speedway this Friday night, with one win, Ben Byrne leads the championship standings, but just by one point over Sam Rameau, who has yet to visit Victory Lane. Brian Robie is third, while Monadnock Speedway winner Todd Patnode and Matt Kimball follow closely behind them. In fact, after two races, the top-five drivers are separated by just eight points. A full standings report is available in the news section of GWPromotional.com.

Fans can expect the above drivers and many more this Friday night for round three of the season. The on-site podcast with Gregg Whitcomb and Jack Arute will have a further breakdown of the points format updates at the track on race day, sponsored by Truly Hard Seltzer.
