Popular New Hampshire driver Scott Watts Sr. from Seabrook, NH maintained his point lead & won the John Spence Sr. Classic Saturday night. All night long he battled with former NASCAR ace Kenny White Jr. lap after lap.

With legendary broadcaster John Spence Sr. in attendance the SMAC drivers put on a show.

Also, a local legend making his 350 SMAC debut was Modified standout Mike Christopher Jr. giving it his best shot in the 01x New England Turf Management Supermodified. After a blown motor on Friday the team worked all night changing motors in the car.

A hot day in the high 80’s saw the #77 Generals Sports Bar/Knapp Logging of Kenny White Jr. showing that his guys have that car dialed in with the fastest practice lap over Sparky MacIver in the #22 and the #01x of Christopher. For his efforts the Gangsta team picked up a $100 bonus. Unfortunately, the #11 of Stephen Duphily lost the motor in warmups and was OFN.

O’Reilly Heat #1 – Two heats in tonight’s show (6 would qualify) Justin Harris in the #29 was recently thinking about selling his Super – well guess not! He went out and showed the field there is plenty left in the tank winning heat #1 and got a $100 bonus. 2nd place was Mike Keddy in the D&D Firewood, Osborne Welding, PRI #79 car. Mike had a few rough races so great work by the team getting the car back up front. Bill Helliwell in the #01 picked up the final transfer spot.

Official finish:

1 – #29 Justin Harris

2 – #79 Mike Keddy

3 – #20 Scott Watts Sr.

4 – #01x Mike Christopher Jr.

5 – #77 Kenny White

6 – #01 Bill Helliwell

7 – #19 Ben Tinker

8 – #38 Jimmy Barker

O’Reilly Heat #2 – If you are a racer in NH you probably know the Helliwell name. Well welcome George Helliwell making his SMAC debut in the #07NH Helliwell House car.

He got the green and really took off. Halfway thru the race the car brushed the front stretch wall sadly ending what was a stellar run. The team will be back at some point. Sparky MacIver in the #22 hung on for Heat race #2 in the Atomic Fireworks, AWB Paving, Watts Performance Engines and earned a $100 bonus. Nette Humphrey picked up the last transfer spot in the Puzzled Racing, Bay Haven Lobster Pound, Cornish Hardware #04.

Official finish:

1 – #22 Sparky MacIver

2 – #50 Dave Helliwell

3 – #13 Bobby Timmons III

4 – #55 Matt Seavey

5 – #99 Jason Phillips

6 – #04 Nette Humphrey

7 – #07NH George Helliwell

With the crowd on their feet…the lights on…the green flag was out and we’re underway!!

The #77 of White Jr. took command but heading into turn 3 the #99 of Jason Phillips collided with the #20 of Scott Watts Sr. sending his hard into the wall. Jason was ok after a hospital trip but was OFN as was the #22 of MacIver who was collected. The #04 of Nette Humphrey was collected but able to continue after changing the LR tire.

A complete restart this time saw the #20 of Watts Sr. take the lead with White Jr. in hot pursuit. 3rd spot saw BT3, 4th was the #79 of Keddy and #01x of Christopher early on.

One car on the move was the Muldoon Motorsports #50 of Dave Hollywood Helliwell. He was able to move up to the 6th spot in just a few laps from 12th. Everybody knows that team has been on their game lately.

Lap 15 – While the #77 kept pushing Watts Sr. to make a mistake the wing on the Go Car Wash #19 of Ben Tinker turned sideways with a broken wing tree. The #19 retired for the night.

Lap 21 – The top 5 were 20,77,13,50,79…multiple time winner Timmons III in the Seacoast RV SuperStore was fast all night and a had a few runs at White Jr. but just came up short – Last race runner up Bill Helliwell in the Twin Motorsports, Battery Shop of New England, RMS Excavating & Landscaping, Traditional Mortgage, Inc., Enzo’s bakery #01 machine exited the race and was OFN.

Lap after lap White would not give up…as they encountered the #29 of Harris and the #55 of Seavey there was enough distance for Watts Sr. to finish the deal. At the finish Watts Sr., held off White Jr. taking the checkers for the 3rd time in the #22 Bob Chabot owned black/orange car. BT3 finished podium once again with Dave Helliwell & Mike Keddy rounding out your top 5.

A few shout outs:

The Red MacDonald owned #55 of Matt Seavey. They had battery issues..shock issues..but overcame the odds getting up to 6th which is where they would finish.

The #04 Humphrey team rebounded with a nice 8th place finish after the lap 1 jingle.

Steady Jimmy Barker in the #38 finished P9 for his 1st top 10 of the season.

Since Watts Sr. won his 3rd race of the season per 350 SMAC guidelines the engine was P&G Gauge tested (the strictest test of the engine) which measures the Cubic Inches. The engine was found to 354 cubic inches within the specified limits.
