King of the Green Modified winner Matt Hirschman. October 15th 2022

St. Johns, PA (10/15/2022)- The Tom Wanick, Jr. Memorial Saturday evening closed out the second of the three day “King of the Green” weekend at Evergreen Raceway. Northampton’s Matt Hirschman started the 200-lap Modified main event dead last and patience prevailed, as he left the speedway as the race winner, with over $10,000 in winnings. Gerard Lawrence claimed the Factory Stock victory and TJ Kapish of Mountaintop cruised to the Four Cylinder victory.

Blaine Barry led the Factory Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 40-lap feature. He led the opening circuit over Steve Kreitzer, Scott Sipe, Brandon Cook and Moe Hunsicker.

Brian Brown began to make his way into the top five, but contact with Kreitzer brought out the yellow flag on 20. When green flag racing resumed, Barry continued to hold the point. However, Gerard Lawrence, who had started the event in the seventh position, had worked his way into the second spot,

Lawrence looked high and low on Barry and he finally made an attempt at the pass stick, when he grabbed the lead on lap 25.

A quick yellow slowed the field on lap 29, but Lawrence held the point and never looked back to claim the victory over Greg Harris, Barry, Hunsicker and Sipe.

With a solid seventh place finish, Cook claimed his second straight championship in the division. Barry and Brown were heat race winners.

From the pole position, Brooklyn Peters led the Four Cylinder division to the green flag in the 40-lap Four Cylinder feature. As the green flag flew, Jay Skupski grabbed the lead and Kenzie Adams followed suit.

TJ Kapish started in the fifth spot and with four laps complete he climbed to fifth. One lap later, Zeb Farber got by Adams for the second spot. Kapish continued to pick off cars and edged Farber for the second spot on lap nine.

Kapish stayed glued to Skupski’s rear bumper and capitalized on a bobble to take the lead on lap 12. He distanced himself from the rest of the field and took the win over Nick Shaeffer. Adams finished in the third spot, which secures her as the divisional champion. Paul Hartwig III and BJ Wambold completed the top five.

Hartwig, Adams, Joe Barbush III and Kapish were heat race winners. Rebecca Barbush and Jimmy Ayre were the consi winners.

The detailed Modified race story and full race results will be provided by Dino Oberto.

The third and final day for the 7th annual King of the Green weekend at the speedway is set for Sunday, October 16. Grandstand admission is $20, with the Evergreen Modifieds on tap to compete in a pair of 30-lap features. The Late Model and Street Stock divisions are also on the card for the afternoon.
