MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby is heading back to Caraway Speedway for the first time in seven years this weekend, looking to bring a trophy back to New England. Coby will drive one of three Tommy Baldwin Racing entries in the North-South Shootout at Caraway – an event that brings the best of the North, and the South, together for one Tour-Type Modified 125-lap main event.

The race is well-known as one of the top of the season in the Modified market, and Coby would love to win it for the first time. As a six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion and multiple-time Tour-Type Modified race winner, the North-South Shootout is still one on the bucket list for Coby.

He knows he will have a good opportunity to win with Baldwin’s team. The No. 7NY captured three championships this season, with four different drivers, including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour owner’s championship, the SMART Modified Tour title and the New Smyrna Speedway World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing crown. He knows the car will have the speed to get the job done and has already won multiple times in the seat this season so far.

“I don’t have a ton of memory of what the track is like from when I went there the last time,” Coby said. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to manage my tires and racing at places like Myrtle Beach Speedway, Lee USA Speedway, Seekonk Speedway… I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better at it. Tommy has races there under his belt and it would be neat to be racing the other Tommy Baldwin Racing cars for the win. Guys like Matt Hirschman and all of the Southern Modified guys will be tough to beat. It certainly was an awesome season for Tommy and his team and the North-South Shootout has always been a big event. It means a lot to honor John Blewett, Charles Kepley and their families… I’ve never won it, but I’m definitely going after it.”

The full schedule for race day at Caraway Speedway includes practice beginning at 9am on Saturday. Feature racing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., and the Tour-Type Modified North-South Shootout 125 is slated as the final feature race of the day. The race will air live on PitRow.TV for those who are not in the area. Jimmy Blewett and Caleb Heady will also drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing.
