Barbeau Racing and Driver Dave Cliff to Hold Team Fundraiser Saturday at Lighthouse Lanes

OSWEGO, NY (March 22, 2016) – Tim Barbeau of Barbeau Racing and veteran driver Dave Cliff will be putting on a team fundraiser and race party this Saturday, March 26 at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego to help support their team’s racing efforts this season at Oswego Speedway, beginning at 1 p.m.

The party will feature a chicken BBQ as well as pulled pork dinners, for a donation of $10.

While in attendance there will be several prizes available to take home including an Oswego Speedway season pit pass, two lottery board raffles, a tailgate package, as well as a racing quilt, and several prize baskets.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Donwan.

Barbeau Racing returned full-time in 2015 with Cliff at the controls, immediately making an impact on the Pathfinder Bank SBS division.

Cliff would go on to snare two main event victories including his second career triumph in the $1,500 to win Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS, finishing second in the overall driver’s title only 5.5 points behind champion Mike Bond.

Cliff and Barbeau will return full-time in 2016, with their sights set on the Small Block Super track title with their No. 50 FFB chassis.

Kids 16 and under will again be admitted free at all Speedway events in 2016 with the exception of Budweiser International Classic Weekend and Race of Champions Weekend.

On track activity beings at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, May 7 with the annual open test session for all racing divisions.  Testing will run from 1-5pm on May 7 and is free for spectators to sit in the main grandstand.

Racing action at the Speedway begins on Saturday, May 14 featuring the Speedway’s 66th consecutive opening night highlighted by the Race of Champions Modified Richie Evans Memorial 61 as well as kick-off events for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS.

Thompson Boasts Star Studded Sunoco Modified Field for 2016

(THOMPSON, CT) – As the start of the 2016 racing season nears on April 9-10 for the traditional Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park Icebreaker, the Sunoco Modified field is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent history.

Woody Pitkat returns as the division’s champion in the Stan Mertz owned Sunoco Modified. By virtue of winning the title, Pitkat’s team decided to rebuild the car in time for the championship banquet that was held in December for the first time at Mohegan Sun. Since that time, the car has been ready to race and to begin a title defense.

“It’s been a weird offseason because the car has been ready to go and I haven’t been to the shop all winter,” said Pitkat.

When asked if being separated from the team for five months will impact his on track performance, Pitkat felt it would make the team stronger.

“If anything a long break would only fuel the fire more because the team hasn’t been doing the daily grind. Some people may be rushing and burning the midnight oil, but we are ready to go and to fire on all eight cylinders so it will be more of an advantage to us,” he said.

2014 division champion and defending Icebreaker winner, Ryan Preece, has moved up to the national scene and is competing full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JD Motorsports. Preece is scheduled to be on hand for the season opener driving for Al and Cathy Moniz in the Sunoco Modified division. The husband and wife duo also back Preece’s Xfinity Series car as an associate sponsor with their company Falmouth Ready Mix appearing on the car for all 33 events this season. The remainder of his schedule will be determined on a race by race basis.

Adding his name to the list of regulars for 2016 is Rowan Pennink who hasn’t raced at Thompson full time since 2010 when he too drove for the Moniz family in the 31 machine. Pennick, the reigning SK Modified champion at Stafford Speedway, will replace Keith Rocco in the Ceravolo machine and make the weekly 4 hour drive from his home in New Egypt, NJ to compete at Thompson. Pennink will also be on hand for the Whelen Modified Tour event as he takes over the Boehler Racing No. 3 full time this season.

Rocco, a 4-time Thompson champion will return once again, but not only as a driver. He will also enter as a car owner for rookie Ronnie Williams who will run full time. Williams at just 19 years old has already garnered a lot of attention after a 6 win season at Stafford in 2015. He has never run a Sunoco Modified at Thompson and has only two starts at the track including his first ever SK Lite Modified start in 2011 at only 15 years old. It was the first time he drove anything other than a go kart. However, regardless of William’s inexperience at the Big T, he is expected to be a factor this season.

“I’m not worried at all. Keith’s cars are the best out there so at this point it is all up to me,” said Williams. “Last year I gained a lot of experience and matured a lot. I’m racing against guys I know; Keith, Woody, and Rowan. It’s going to be a new track, but I am definitely looking forward to it.”

Not only is this the first time Rocco will own a car he will race against all season for the drivers championship, it is also the first time Williams will drive a car that isn’t prepared by his family team.

Thompson Speedway opens its gates for the first time this season on Saturday March 26, for an open practice session. The Icebreaker kicks off the season on the weekend of April 9-10. “Corporate Jet” To Land Friday At Georgetown Speedway; Brett Hearn To Drive Petruska Family No. 66 For Deron Rust Memorial

$3,396-To-Win Small-Block Modified Event

GEORGETOWN, DE – “The Corporate Jet” Brett Hearn will land this Friday, March 25 at Georgetown Speedway.

Hearn, the Sussex, N.J., superstar driver, invades the First State for the first time since 2008 to take part in the Deron Rust Memorial at the historic half-mile oval. On Friday, the small-block Modifieds take the limelight in a 33-lap, $3,396-to-win event offering $396 to take the green flag.

Hearn will pilot the potent Petruska family Atlas Paving No. 66 small-block, replacing a vacationing Duane Howard.

“We had a good time racing at Georgetown for the opener with Duane and wanted to get back down there,” Jared Petruska said. “Duane is on vacation this week and Brett was available. We’re looking forward to it.”

Hearn, when contacted by phone, said it had been many years since he won at Georgetown.

“I think I won one there back in 1981,” he reflected, noting his most recent start there was a Super DIRTcar Series event under the Jay James management team on July 17, 2008.

Hearn’s memory was correct. He actually has two career Georgetown Speedway victories: the first came on November 8, 1981 and the second on May 15, 1988.

Hearn and the Petruska family have a longtime friendship. He drove the car once last season as a sub for Howard in the ‘Dirty Jersey 3’ event at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway. The pairing looks for better results this time around at Georgetown.

“We ran our open motor for the first time Saturday with Duane at New Egypt (the track’s March 19 opener) and feel good about it,” Petruska said. “Our lap times were right there.”

Joining the small-block Modifieds on the Friday card are Crate 602 Sportsman ($700 to win, $100 to start), Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks and Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars.

Adult grandstand admission is just $15. Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $12. Kids 9-12 pay $8 and children under eight years old are admitted free.

Pit admission is $30, with no license required.

Bonuses and special awards are adding up to make this prestigious event more lucrative.

Spec Bonuses: The first three Big Diamond/Grandview/New Egypt-sealed engine combinations across the line in the Deron Rust Memorial 33-lap main will share in cash bonuses of $500, $300 and $200, respectively.

American Racer Bonuses: At the pre-race drivers’ meeting, the names of three small-block Modified drivers signed in for competition will be drawn. Each driver will receive a certificate for a FREE American Racer tire courtesy of the speedway and regional distributor Lias Tire of Indiana, Pa.

VP Racing Fuels Bonuses: Three names of small-block Modified drivers will be drawn at the drivers’ meeting. Each driver will receive a $50 certificate toward the purchase of any VP Racing Fuel.

DNQ Passes: Drivers in the Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman divisions that were unable to qualify for the season-opening Melvin L. Joseph Memorial will receive a free pit pass for the March 25 Deron Rust Memorial.

Crate 602 Bonuses: The drivers finishing third, ninth and sixth in the Crate 602 Sportsman feature during the Deron Rust Memorial will receive $50 cash bonuses and commemorative awards courtesy of the Rust family. Additionally, the family has boosted the winner’s share to $700 and there will be a drawing for $100 cash of the drivers finishing 11th-15th.

The event welcomes a number of small-block engine combinations to Georgetown. Small-blocks (maximum 363 cubic inches) weigh 2,400 lbs. Big Diamond/Grandview/New Egypt-sealed spec head engines weigh 2,350 lbs. using methanol and 2,275 lbs. on gasoline.

All sealed engines will need a pre-race tech inspection by George McKelvey.

There are no pre-registration forms or car entry fees for this event.

Gates will open for the pit area at 4 p.m., with grandstand gates to follow at 5 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6:20 p.m. approximately, with racing at 7:15 p.m.

Following the Deron Rust Memorial on March 25, Georgetown Speedway will be silent through May 13 when the United Racing Club (URC) 360 Sprint Cars invade. The “one event per month” schedule runs through the summer season.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
