logo for web croppedBINGHAMTON, NY…All systems are a go for the 65th running of the Sunoco Race of Champions Weekend this Saturday and Sunday at the Chemung Speedrome.  The Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 will take center stage on Sunday with racing set to begin at 2:15 p.m.  Several former race champions will be returning for this year’s event.
After an early week forecast that cast some doubt on the race weekend, the forecast has changed dramatically for the better.  Both this Saturday and Sunday look very good weather wise with Sunday completely dry with temperatures expected to be in the lower 60’s.
A number of former Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 race winners are expected to contend for this year’s title.  Defending race winner Chuck Hossfeld will return as he is also chasing back to back Modified 200 winner Matt Hirschman in the 2015 Tour Point Championship.  This Sunday will decide the championship between the long time rivals.
Other former Modified 200 race winner T.J. Potrzebowski will be looking to garner his second win in this event in front of the home town crowd.  Potrzebowski from Elmira was the 2006 race winner at the Oswego Speedway and would like nothing more than to get the job done in front of the home town fans.  Zane Zeiner, the 2011 race winner is expected to make his return to the Chemung Speedrome in hopes of becoming a two-time winner.
Four time Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 race winner George Kent from Horseheads, NY is also working on securing a ride for this Sundays event.  He is expected to try and win his fifth and record breaking Modified 200 victory.
On Saturday the racing program will get underway at 6 p.m. featuring the RoC Sportsman in a 125 lap feature event.  Jimmy Zacharias from Candor, NY is the 2015 Chemung Speedrome and New York State NASCAR Champion in the class. The INEX Legends cars will compete in their richest paying event in the northeast this season on Saturday presented by Northern PA Notary.  A Four Cylinder Open and Bandolero race program will complete the evening of racing.
Sunday racing will get underway at 2:15 p.m. with the Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 the center of the action.  The Super Stocks will do battle in a 75 lap affair with a FWD Four Cylinder event capping the day of racing.
The Race of Champions offices can be contacted at 607-775-5555 or by emailing the office at rocpavement@aol.com.  Tickets can be purchased by phoning the speedway offices and using your major credit card.  A full weekend schedule and pricing can be found at www.raceofchampionsweekend.com.  Kids 5 and younger will be admitted FREE of charge both days!

Weather Causes NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Postponement

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 1, 2015) – Due to impending severe weather expected to hit North Carolina later this week, NASCAR and officials at Hickory Motor Speedway have preemptively moved the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race to Sunday, Oct. 4.

The MTP Tire 150 was originally scheduled for the North Carolina track on Saturday. The schedule for Sunday is still being finalized; NASCAR and track officials will continue to monitor the weather situation and make updates accordingly.

The race is the 10th in an 11-race schedule, and defending series champion Andy Seuss leads brothers Burt and Jason Myers by 10 points apiece. Four-time champion George Brunnhoelzl III is just 13 points out of the lead and won the race at Hickory in 2011, the last time the tour visited the .363-mile oval.

Following the Hickory event, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will conclude the season on Thursday, Oct. 8 on the front stretch quarter-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Different Format On Tap For Tri Track Series October New London Waterford Event

IMG_6303LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Official Tri Track series release

All the marbles will be on the line at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl when the Northeast Race Cars and Parts Tri Track Open Modified Series concludes an action packed weekend on October 25.

Unlike the four races prior in 2015, the series season finale will be a non-points event. At the Speedbowl in September, Matt Hirschman was crowned the 2015 Tri Track Series champion after finishing on the podium in the Dunleavy’s 100.

This event will also hold a completely different format than any of the other four races this season. There will be no short distance heat races followed up by consolation races and a B-main feature. Instead, this event will be started with two 35 lap “qualifying feature’s” that will determine who will advance into the big show.

The series will use a blind draw to line up the twin 35 lap feature’s, splitting the car count exactly in half. For example, if forty cars show up at the Speedbowl on that Sunday, twenty will be in the first feature and twenty will be in the second feature.

From there, the top eleven finishers in each one will transfer into a 65 lap, $5,000 to win main event. The 65 lap feature that will conclude the afternoon will include 22 drivers, plus up to four provisional spots that could be added by series officials.

Also in attendance on the Sunday afternoon will be New London-Waterford Speedbowl Mini Stocks, who will hold a 50 lap feature event. The $2,000 to win “Battle of the Sound,” for the Legend Cars, will also be 50 laps in distance. The series wishes to thank all of the fans, drivers, teams, sponsors and officials for the support during the 2015 racing season.
