Heavy Rains Force NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Cancellation

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2015) – Due to substantial rainfall in Hickory and additional precipitation forecast through Sunday, NASCAR and officials at Hickory Motor Speedway have cancelled the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour MTP Tire 150.

The race was originally scheduled for the North Carolina track on Saturday and pre-emptively moved to Sunday when heavy rain began at week’s end. NASCAR officials visited the track today and determined the surface will not be suitable for racing tomorrow.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will conclude the season on Thursday, Oct. 8 on the front stretch quarter-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Defending series champion Andy Seuss leads brothers Burt and Jason Myers by 10 points apiece. Four-time champion George Brunnhoelzl III is just 13 points out of the lead.

Time to settle the 2015 RoC Modified Tour Title – what you need to know!

The focus has certainly ramped up for the 65th running of the Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 on Sunday. We have been receiving a huge amount of phone calls from Buffalo to Riverhead, parts of New Jersey and beyond. It will be a big crowd and we have a great forecast for Sunday! Racing begins at 2:15 p.m. Pit gates open at 10 a.m. and grandstand gates open at 12 noon.

To accommodate the large crowd we will be running a school bus from the across the street camping/parking area to and from the pit area and grandstand area throughout the day. The bus will also transport people from the turn 4 overflow parking area to the grandstand area. Thank you to Ed McGuire for providing the bus for our fans!

Race fans should remember if you want to save $5 and take advantage of the great hillside view be sure to bring a portable lawn chair. The hillside has been manicured and can fit literally thousands of chairs and blankets…With the rain on Saturday if you want to bring a blanket for the hill consider putting plastic down first.

The race teams should plan on entering the pit area in the normal turn 4 entrance. Please do not stop in front of the ticket booth area as we will be selling all pit passes at the bottom of the hill in our RoC trailer by the pit gate entrance in turn 4. We want to keep our traffic patterns moving.

RoC Modified Tires will be exclusively at the pole barn off turn 4. We have a large amount in a tractor trailer and did not want to cut off spectator visibility by parking it in the infield.

We have rented a street sweeper for the race track surface itself to clean up after haulers cross the race track to unload cars. We do ask that teams unload their cars in a timely fashion so we can sweep the speedway properly prior to practice.

Our Race of Champions Tee Shirts and Hoodies will be available directly in front of the ticket booth during the early part of the day. They will sell out so be sure to get yours. We will be running a special on a new inventory of RoC embroidered hats as well 1 for $10 or 2 for $15.

We have extra portable rest rooms on top of the hillside in addition to the normal bath room area. This will alleviate any lines for the rest rooms and allow fans on the hillside not to have to walk too far if they choose not to.

The speedway does sell beer and fans area permitted to bring in a six pack sized cooler – please no glass bottles.

All race day questions can be directed to us by phoning 607-775-5555.

All plans are in place for Sunday – we hope you be a part of the excitement.
