Evergreen Announces ‘March Enduro Madness’ Enduros & Releases 2016 Season Schedule

By: Gene Ostrowski

January 17, 2016

St. Johns, PA (1/17/2016)- Following a terrific turnout for Evergreen’s ‘Snowball 100s’ Enduros in early January, the track has decided to host yet another day of wintertime excitement on Saturday, March 12.

Like done for the Snowball event, three popular divisions are slated to take the first green flag on the afternoon of Saturday, March 12th– the 4-cylinders and 6/8-cylinders. Both will compete in 100-lap events and fight to the finish for the $500 prize. A third division, ‘Open Competition’, has been added for 50-laps of action and unlike the last event, this class will go out first, prior to debris being on the racing surface.

A handful of sponsors have jumped on board to help support the show as well, including several area businesses. Thanks to their support, not only will the top five finishers in each division receive money, but 6th through 10th in the 4-cylinder and 6/8-cylinder Enduro classes will each receive $25.

MoTorsport Video Production is offering a $50 CASH prize to the driver of the car with the coolest paint scheme in the 100s. This will be one overall prize (4-cyl. & 6/8-cyl. Mixed) and not one prize for each division.

In memory of former Factory Stock champion, Mike Moyer, Jr, who passed away four years ago, the Moyer family has decided to add something special to the payout in his honor. For the 4-Cylinder and 6/8-cylinder Enduros, $25 will be given to the seventh place driver on lap number seven. In addition, $50 will be given to the seventh place finishers in each of those two classes.

The concession stand will be open for business the day of the event..

The track is hosting a $10 discount for pre-registration. The form is on the speedway website and must be mailed in, along with the $40 pre-registration fee. Drivers may also register at the track the day of the event for $50. The transponder rental fee is $10 and pit admission is set at $25. The pit gates will swing open at 9:00 AM.

The grandstands are slated to open at 12 noon and grandstand admission is just $5. Children 10 years of age and younger will be admitted for FREE.

The speedway recently announced the release of their 2016 regular racing schedule, which features a variety of divisions, with time off for each. The schedule boasts Evergreen Modifieds, Tour Type Modifieds, Late Models, Dirt Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders. Also on the card for a number of dates are the Atlantic Coast Old Timers, Kids Big Wheel races, plus Powder Puff and Mechanic’s race events. The season schedule is available on the speedway website.

The green flag is set to drop for the first event at 1 PM. For more information regarding ‘March Enduro Madness’ at Evergreen Raceway, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com. Please like their Facebook page as well.

Luke Colleran, Ed Brown, Jr. and Scott Adams Victors in Evergreen’s Snowball Enduros

St. Johns, PA (1/10/2016)- The 2016 race season at Evergreen Raceway in St. Johns, PA officially kicked off Saturday afternoon. It was an inaugural show of sorts, with Jason Makarewicz as the new track lease holder and track manager. The show was anticipated by many drivers and fans to be a great start to a new era, yet no one knew exactly how popular the show would become. When it was all said and done, Ed Brown, Jr. claimed the 6-8Cylinder Enduro victory and Luke Colleran took top honors in the 4-Cylinder division. Scott Adams cruised to victory in the 25-lap Open Competitions show.

Approximately forty 6/8-Cylinder Enduro cars started the 100-lap event. Brown started second and took the top spot from TJ Kapish before a lap was scored. Anthony Pizzo moved in on the leader and then had his turn at the point until lap nine, when Woot Lawrence took command.

Lawrence’s lead was short lived, as he was forced to pit with issues. That handed the lead back to Brown but Pizzo remained to stay glued to the rear bumper of the leader. Eventually, Pizzo regained the lead.

With just over a quarter of the race left, the top two made some contact, which slowed Pizzo. Brown jumped back to the lead and never looked back, taking the $500 victory over Pizzo, Drew Fohrkolb, Elliot Wohl and Brian Halecki.

With the largest car count since 2005, ninety Four Cylinders took to the track for 100-laps of action. Devin Schmidt started from the pole position and set the pace early on. Several red flags waved in the early stages and inoperable vehicles remained on the speedway to slow the pace of the event. Gibson lost the momentarily near lap ten and then retook the position.

Mike Mujice, Jr. moved to the point and appeared the car to beat, but Colleran climbed into second.

Trouble struck Mujice on lap 50, when he was involved in an incident. That gave the lead back to Colleran, who pulled off the victory over Joe Warren, Wayne Brenize, Joe Mooney and last place starter, Jeff Ackerman.

The Open Comp cars took to the track for the final show of the afternoon, which was cut to 25-laps. The field was well-represented with a mix of eight and four cylinder race cars.

Harry O’Neill started from the pole and was challenged by Gerry Koenig for the lead. Koenig’s attempt was unsuccessful on the damp surface and Adams got by for second.

The top two raced side by side and with 14 laps complete, a lapped car got into O’Neill. That gave the lead to Adams, who cruised to the win over Lee Allen, O’Neill, Koenig and Scott Riggleman.

The events held that day were held to honor and memorialize Donny Holland, who was a long time competitor in many divisions at Evergreen Raceway for years.

Due to a few scoring hiccups, only the top ten finishers in each division are shown in the race results. The full field rundown is listed on the track Facebook Page. This issue is number one priority and will be corrected prior to the next event.

The 2016 season schedule will be released in a short period of time, as will the divisional purses. For more information regarding Evergreen Raceway, including regular divisional rules and procedures, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com. Please like their Facebook page as well.

Evergreen’s Snowball Enduros Will Set the Tone for 2016

St. Johns, PA (1/3/2016)- When Jason Makarewicz took over the operations of Evergreen Raceway in St. Johns, PA he knew that the task ahead would be a huge undertaking. His hard work and dedication will finally pay off this Saturday when the 2016 season opener at the speedway gets underway. Advertised as the “Snowball 100s”, three winter Enduro divisions will take to the track for the first time in nearly two years.

“Nearly 80 cars are pre-registered for two divisions alone and many more are expected to register at the track on race day”, noted Makarewicz, who is a former Late Model competitor and Factory Stock team owner at the speedway.

“We have had so much support from many people over the last three months and I want to thank them all. The absolute best promotion for any race track is for the fans and drivers to help promote it as well. With this event, everyone stepped up, chipped in and helped spread the word. It means more than they will ever know.”

Two popular divisions are slated to take the first green flag on the afternoon of Saturday, January 9th– the 4-cylinders and 6/8-cylinders. Both will compete in 100-lap events and fight to the finish for the $500 prize. Due to the overwhelming support, a third division, ‘Open Competition’, has been added and depending on car count, those drivers will compete for a minimum of 50-laps.

Makarewicz admits that he’s nervous about the first race of the 2016 season, yet he’s excited as well.

“It’s less than a week away and I can’t eat or sleep. A successful start to the season really depends on this one show. I just pray that all of the drivers, fans and crew members have a great time and realize that this annual event is all about that- fun.”

Many businesses have jumped on board to help support the show as well, including CK Auto Service and Race Fab. They have agreed to pay the 6th through 10th place drivers in the four and six/eight cylinder divisions $25 each. They are also the victory lane sponsor for 2016.

MoTorsport Video Production is offering a $50 CASH prize to the driver of the car with the coolest paint scheme in the 100s. This will be one overall prize (4-cyl. & 6/8-cyl. Mixed) and not one prize for each division. Also, “Tito Juice” and Electric Frog Designs have come on board to supply the trophies and plaques for both divisions.

Everyone who plans to attend the Snowball 100s are asked to bring a canned food item, which will be donated to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

The concession stand will be open for business and both coffee and hot chocolate will be sold for only $1 per cup with FREE refills.

The pit gates will open before 11 AM. Pit admission is $25. The grandstands are slated to open at 12 noon and grandstand admission is just $5. Children 10 years of age and younger will be admitted for FREE.

The green flag is set to drop and the first 100-lap Enduro will take the green at 1 PM. For more information regarding Evergreen Raceway, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com. Please like their Facebook page as well.
