WATERFORD – Three eras of the Billy Greco #43’s paced the SK Modified® field Saturday evening as a field of 20 strong lined up to honor both Greco and mother of long time announcer Dave Baribeault, Terry. Kyle James would get the jump on the initial start but found himself immediately under attack by Anthony Flannery. Flannery took the lead on lap 3 and held control with Rob Janovic Jr in a solid second place. The action from third on back was hotly contested as Todd Owen worked his way forward from a 7th place starting spot. The yellow flag flew with 28 laps on the board where Flannery seemingly shot out of a cannon to take back the lead. After a brief battle for second with Janovic and Troy Talman, Owen was able to slip into 3rd and eventually 2nd. A 4 lap shootout closed out the race with Flannery back on top, however on the final lap Owen dove underneath Flannery and was able to muscle his way in front to lead only 75% of a lap for the large pay day.
Brody Monahan shot out to an early lead in the Late Models while both PJ Evans and Jason Palmer tried to work their way by pole sitter Charles Bailey III. The two would clear Bailey on the loaw side while Monahan held a half-straightaway lead. Palmer then picked off Evans from the high groove and set his sights on Monahan. The veteran reeled in the rookie in no time and was able to clear Monahan with ease taking Evans with him. The running order would remain the same for the balance of the race and Palmer would go on to win his fourth of the season, and 96th at the track overall.
The Trucks returned to action with Charles Beal setting the pace after coming off a heat race win. Kyle Gero didn’t waste any time getting around him however, and wrestled the lead away. Brody Monahan made quick work of the field as he was on Gero’s bumper by lap 7, and in the lead almost immediately. It looked as if Monahan had the race locked up and his win streak extended, until a part failed on his truck during a restart with 3 laps to go. Gero, who was having a solid second place showing until this time, took advantage of the spark show to pull into the lead eventually winning the race. Meanwhile Monahan wheeled his injured Truck on the outside, and Beal would beat Monahan for second in a photo finish.
Mini Stock veteran Nick Pappacoda got out to an early lead until he got elbowed above the racing surface in the corner, saving the car. Bill Sylvia was the benefactor for a moment, until defending champion Charles Canfield and John Bavolacco started knocking on Sylvia’s door. Canfield would be the first driver by and set the pace, but Bavolacco would soon be at his door. The pair were side by side in this caution free race for nearly half of the scheduled laps. In the final lap, the final turn, the final half a straightaway while coming to the checkered flag, the two would come into contact and Bavolacco would be clear and cross the line first.
Riley Paul set the pace in the first INEX Legend Car feature of the evening with a strong Dylan Cote attached to his bumper for a few laps. A lap 4 restart relegated Cote back to third place while a hot Isaiah Newcomb put Paul under attack. Newcomb, unable to clear Paul under green at the time, used a restart at the halfway point to power into the lead where he would stay for the remainder of the event, winning his second race at the Speedbowl this week.
The second race was almost shaping up to be a similar story. Dennis Pantani and Scott Limkemann led the field to green with Limkemann having the advantage. Dylan Freeman would dice his way through traffic and be the next driver to take the lead. Dylan Cote wasted no time on Freeman and was able to make a bid for the lead on the very next lap with Riley Paul and Newcomb in tow. Newcomb would work his way into second challenging Cote for the top spot when contact sent Newcomb to the grass. Cote’s win was for mom’s birthday, with Paul finishing in second place twice in one night and Freeman hanging on for third.
