SBM XII AT STAR SPEEDWAY GOES TO 100 LAPS WITH AN INCREASED PAYOFF

EPPING, NH- Next weekend the Tour-Type Modifieds return to Star Speedway for SBM XII, a race that helped rejuvenate the quarter-mile paved oval in Epping, New Hampshire over a decade ago.

This year’s event will go green on Sunday afternoon, September 17 as part of Star Classic Weekend. It will be held under the Milton CAT Modified Racing Series banner to ensure that the event has a level playing field and organization for racers and fans alike.

After much discussion through track owner Bob Webber Jr. and MCMRS president Bill Doucette, it has been decided to reduce the lap count to 100 and eliminate the tire change format.

This reduction in laps not only reduces cost for the teams, but it also comes with an increase in bonus money available. The Racing Guys, a group of Modified enthusiasts led by retired long-time promoter Dick Williams, have decided to help make the SBM bigger this year.

“We want to give the guys who supported our race a little bonus money,” Willams reasoned. “We also appreciate Willy’s efforts to keep the MRS going. When we have a little extra money it goes back to the racers, and this is a great way to pay it back to these great teams.”

They will pay out an additional $2,950 in bonus money, on top of the MCMRS purse. Most of that will be paid out to the top ten finishing drivers who competed in the Racers Honoring Racers 100 at Star back in July. They have also offered to sponsor a $200 bonus to the first car finishing one lap down and another $200 for the team hauling the longest distance to SBM XII.

Three other bonuses have been added, courtesy of W.A. Doucette Building Company. The heat race winner who turns the fastest last lap will get $200. The most laps led in the SBM will be worth another $200. A hard charger award will add another $200 to the total payoff.

These newly added bonuses are in addition to the $1,000 Nocella Paving SBM Loyalty Bonus, the $718 Chuck Montville Car Owner Award, the $300 Woody’s Auto First Timer Award, the $300 Highest Finishing Father Award, $300 for the Tisdell Transmissions Tough Luck Award the Rockingham Boat $300 Halfway Bonus- plus lap money.

With the race being reduced from 125 to 100, every lap will now matter. Lap money will be paid out to both the race leader and another random top ten running car every time the field crosses the start-finish line. Each lap has been sponsored at varying amounts, between $50 and $300.

“The Milton CAT Modified Racing Series is very excited to be a part of this great event,” series president Bill Doucette said. “This is the premiere event on our schedule. We had a full field of cars at Star last fall and we expect the same this time, but with a much higher payoff for the teams to take home.”

The race winner will pocket a minimum of $5,000 but with all of the bonuses and lap money now available, that total could very well exceed $10,000. Among the favorites will be July winner Todd Patnode, last year’s Star winner Woody Pitkat, former track champion Matt Swanson and past Star winner Anthony Nocella, to name just a few.

For updates on this event, including a full Star Classic Weekend schedule that is just days away, check out the Star Speedway Facebook page or their website, and driver entry updates will be posted on the Modified Racing Series Facebook page as well. Media Contact: Kevin Rice at: Riceonracing@gmail.com
