KUTZTOWN, PA – New name on top.

For the first time in his career, Mat Williamson is following the NJ Quality Drywall South Region with the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco.

The Saint Catherines, Ontario, Canada native and car owner Jeff Behrent have formed a formidable duo on the River Valley Builders North Region in recent years, but never followed the South Region prior to 2024.

Now, three races into his first year in the South Region, Williamson leads the standings as the tour heads to Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., on Tuesday, May 21.

The ‘Berks County Brawl’ will carry a 75-point show up rule at Action Track USA. All drivers who register and attempt to qualify for the 50-lap affair will receive 75 points, regardless of results.

The one-fifth-mile oval will see 16 starters take the green flag in the $5,000-to-win main event, with a fully paid B-Main being contested.

In total, a standard STSS purse of over $25,000 will be handed out to the competitors in the A and B-Mains.

Williamson, fresh off a top five in his first ever appearance at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., holds a seven-point advantage over Walden, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego.

Perrego, who does have experience as a South Region regular, has returned to full-time STSS duty with support from Vinnie Salerno.

Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard slipped to third in the standings (30 points behind) after a mechanical failure cost him a top five finish in the ‘Diamond State 50’ at Delaware International Speedway.

Sheppard has won the South Region championship three times in his career, including back-to-back titles the last two seasons.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen (-40) vaulted to fourth with his second South Region win, despite missing the ‘Speed Showcase’ at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway.

Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Ryan Krachun leads the Garden State contingent, sitting fifth in the standings, 44 markers off the pace set by Williamson.

Sitting sixth through 12th, respectively, is Harleysville, Pa.’s Mike Gular (-48); Elizabethtown, N.Y.’s Mike Mahaney (-49); Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown (-50); Covington Township, Pa.’s Alex Yankowski (-62); Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc (-75); Boyertown, Pa.’s Ryan Watt (-84); and Roscoe, N.Y.’s Michael Trautschold (-86).

Last year’s ‘Berks County Brawl’ was held as a non-points event, being the first time ever the big-block/small-block Modifieds hit the bullring surface.

Mike Gular picked up the crowd-pleasing win, which clicked off with just one caution throughout the event.

The entire night of racing will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) via the annual subscription.
