BROOKFIELD, NY – After an extended break due to weather, Brookfield Speedway returned to action Saturday night.
Butchie Irwin of Climax, N.Y., led the list of winners, topping the $700-to-win, 25-lap Scenic View Campground Crate 602 Sportsman event at the Madison County Fairgrounds.
Irwin, who started from the pole via a redraw of top heat-race qualifiers, led the event from start to finish.
Irwin survived intermittent challenges from David Hackett, who finished second. Rocky Rothwell thwarted the advances of Kadon Hohensheldt for third. Jonathan Feagles completed the front five.
For the second time on the weekend, Hayden Coons was victorious in Limited Sportsman competition. Coons, who won on Friday night at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y., backed up his effort Saturday at Brookfield, wiring the 20-lap main over John Baker.
Kenny Gates of West Winfield, N.Y., earned the White’s Welding 20-lap Pro Stock win and a $500 payday. Gates outdistanced Andy Graves and Buck Gasner in a dominant drive.
After a wild 15-lap Anderson’s Towing & Recovery Four Cylinder event, Kamron Krause (Dual Cam) and Hayleigh Gates (Single Cam) took home the victories.
Jaden Pierce outgunned Paul Holic to win the 15-lap Abrams Press Allstar Slingshot main, while Blake Banek was the Abrams Press Junior Slingshot 12-lap winner.
Racing resumes at Brookfield on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a complete program of Scenic View Campground Crate 602 Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, White’s Welding Pro Stock, Anderson’s Towing & Recovery Four Cylinders, Abrams Press Allstar Slingshots and Abrams Press Junior Slingshots plus the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Racing Series.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $15. Kids 8 and under FREE.
Pit admission is $40 (ages 13 and up), $10 Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 Children (ages 5 and under).
