Oaks, PA (Saturday) – A busy Motorsports Show Saturday featuring NASCAR Stars Ray Evernham and Bill Elliott, a pair of competitions for the sport’s youngest fans, and recognition for outstanding efforts by Show exhibitors, combined to make Motorsports Show Saturday an outstanding experience for the huge crowd that raced through the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA.
On stage Saturday was Erin-Crocker-Evernham, the one and only female driver in the history of the World Of Oulaws Sprint Series to win an A-Main.
Evernham and Elliott drew a huge crowd of autograph seekers, many of whom took snapshots with their favorite drivers.
Among the hundreds of booths and race cars on display, seven received awards of merit for their appearance and relevance.
Voted Best Small Car was the No. 5 Micro Sprint of Christian Bruno that appeared in the Hyper Racing Booth. Best Open Cockpit car was the Thompson Motorsports Number 11 driven by Mike Thompson that was part of the Robison Racing Products/ Kreider Manufacturing display. Battaglia, a drag racer and first time PPB Motorsports Show exhibitor was surprised by the award his received and was even more excited about the response the racing public gave his Race Jack Solutions product, a reimagined jack for competition race cars, received from show attendees. Battaglia said he had sold a dozen jacks at the Show and had handed out a great amount of literature to prospective customers.
Also earning booth awards were the Micro Stock display of a dozen cars side by side put together by Al Puntasecca, Bobby Braxton’s restored Weld Modified No. 74 originally owned by Frank Wiechiecki earned the Best Vintage Stock Car award and Best Vintage Open Cockpit car was the No. 73 mid-engine TQ Midget originally driven by Jack Bertling and owned by Ray McCabe. A panel of PPB Motorsports Show officials judged the entries.
The Tire Change Competition returned to the Motorsports show for the first time since 1996 and will be back next year, bigger and better. Sponsored by American Racer Tire and Vahlco Racing Wheels, two-person teams competed to change the right-side tires on a jacked-up Mike Mohr Dirt Modified. The winners earned $500, an American Racer Tire, and a Vahlco Wheel, with similar prizes for second and third places. The top ten teams from preliminaries advanced to Saturday’s finals, where the top three competed for the championship. Paul Hartwig Sr. and Bobby Geiger posted the fastest preliminary time at 22.14 seconds and led the finals with 23.96 seconds. However, a two-second penalty for misplacing a tire impacted their final results.
Kids Big Wheel Races were featured Saturday afternoon at the show. Walker Klein, Karsen Lovett, and Connor Fox were the top three finishers in the Ages 3-4 competition, Blake Klinger, Joel DelGaudie, Jr., and Colton Muldowney were the top three in the Age 5-6 bracket and Brantley Gray, Charlotte Kobylarz and Landon Snyder were the podium finishers for the Age 7-9 grouping.
