(Forestville, PA 3-31-25) This past Sunday’s Practice Day at Big Diamond Speedway certainly helped ignite the fire for race hungry fans who were eager to get back to the 3/8-mle dirt oval and catch a glimpse of the cars and stars who will be performing there each week.
Sunday though, was practice, and now it’s time for the real action to begin as the 53rd season opener takes place this Friday, April 4 with the Thaw Brawl.
It’s the first of a busy 24-race schedule and in typical Big Diamond style things are set to get off in fine fashion with the headline Quandel Concrete 358 Modifieds racing in a 25-lap feature that pays $4053-to-win.
There’s good money up for grabs as well for the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman division with $1053 going to the driver who crosses the finish line first after their 20-lap contest. Likewise, the always thrilling Red White and Blue Auto Inc., Roadrunners have a 20-lap affair which will pay $453 as the top prize. And joining in as part of the Opening Day celebration will be the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman, now beginning their third season of racing and going a distance of 15-laps.
Of course, being the first point paying event of the year everyone starts out with a clean slate. Drivers will all draw for starting spots when signing in for the night making it an even playing field for all.
Racers and their teams are ready, fans are definitely ready, and the track staff is all geared up and ready to roll. The facility is all polished, shined and ready for action. In short, all the elements are in place for what is set to be a great night of dirt track racing.
Opening Day at Big Diamond Speedway is a tradition that began back in 1972 and 53 seasons later it’s still going as strong as ever. Now under the guidance of Jake and Jasmine Smulley, the husband-and-wife team continue to pour their heart and soul into making certain everyone feels welcome from the time they enter the gates and right up until the final checkered flag of the night waves.
The Smulley’s, along with the entire staff, are looking forward to continuing that rich tradition this Friday evening.
Pit gates will open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30 pm. Hot laps will begin at 7:15 followed by heats. Pit admission is $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members and $45 for all non-members. Adult general admission is $20 and kids 16 and under are admitted for free.
