Barre, VT – The mighty Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series is ready to make its 4th annual trip to the Nation’s Site of Excitement, Thunder Road for the Granite City 100 as part of the 62nd running of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic this Sunday, May 25!
The Modifieds have a long but often underrated history in the Green Mountain State. The powerful NASCAR Modifieds were first introduced to Thunder Road in 1965 in a short head-to-head season with the Flathead V-8 Coupes that put the Nation’s Site of Excitement on the map in the early days of Thursday Night racing at the facility. The Modifieds were short-lived to the Spring of ’65 with Coupe drivers and fans alike nearly in revolt but found a home in the often-remembered Catamount Stadium for several seasons afterward while making here-and-there appearances at Devil’s Bowl and Thunder Road over the years.
Ron Silk has been on fire in 2025, sweeping all three Tour-type Modified starts at Thompson Speedway and is in command of the Monaco Modified standings over Jake Johnson, Jon McKennedy and Patrick Emerling. In a shock to many, Silk remains off the Monaco Modified entry list as of press time Tuesday giving Johnson and McKennedy an early edge for the season-long title chase but they’ve got some proven talent standing in their way.
2023 winner Ronnie Williams and defending Granite City 100 winner Stephen Kopcik also highlight the early entry list as they look to add another granite trophy to their mantle in 2025. ‘Big Money’ Matt Hirschman and Woody Pitkat are also ready to return to Thunder Road, a pair of Modified racing’s most known personalities both looking to finally make their stamp in the Thunder Road history books.
Matt Swanson, Austin Beers, Chris Pasteryak and Jacob Perry are also among those making the trip up Interstate 89 to Barre, Vermont this Memorial Day weekend!
Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl will kick off the 66th season of world-famous racing on Sunday, May 25 with the 62nd Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. The 125-lap Memorial Day Classic kicks off the King of the Road track championship season for the Maplefields/Irving Late Models alongside the 4th annual visit from the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series! The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors join the holiday special for a five-division showdown.
