NEW EGYPT, NJ – Race of the Year.

Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc outlasted Billy Pauch Jr. and Ryan Krachun for his 20th career Modified win at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night.

The trio waged war in a tremendous battle for the top spot, with Pauch Jr. coming from seventh, Krachun from ninth, and Bouc from 13th starting spot before settling it amongst themselves.

“He kind of opened up his entry a little bit and I stuck my nose underneath him,” Bouc explained. “I know he’s not happy with me, but we’ve had a tough year, and I needed this one for sure.”

Lawrenceville, N.J.’s Wade Hendrickson fired off the outside of the front row to take the early lead. The opening portion of the race was littered with Roost Restaurant caution flags, bunching the field together continuously.

Krachun, of Neshanic Station, N.J., was the first car on the move, marching from ninth into third by lap five, and moving into the runner-up spot one lap later.

With Hendrickson working the outside groove up front, Krachun rolled the bottom to the front, taking the lead away from Hendrickson on lap nine.

By the time Krachun had gotten by Hendrickson, Bouc had moved into third and began his work to maneuver by Hendrickson for the runner-up spot with Pauch Jr. in tow.

A lap 11 restart would set the stage for what became a battle for the ages. Krachun fired from the bottom of the front row, but Hendrickson slipped up on the top, allowing Bouc and Pauch Jr. to get by.

From there, the trio put on a show, with all three leading at different points of the affair, and multiple three wide contests for the top spot.

In the end, Bouc slid underneath Krachun for the top spot and pulled away from Pauch Jr. for the win, despite a late yellow with just two laps to go.

“I kind of thought the top was going to go away so I felt like I could get Pauch,” proclaimed Bouc. “I knew I needed to get Krachun though and that was why I forced the issue.”

Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr. came home in the runner-up spot with Krachun completing the podium in his Dan Sommeling-owned No. 51.

Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown quietly piloted his way to fourth place finish from 14th and Sayreville, N.J.’s Dominick Buffalino completed the top five in the Vaclavicek Racing No. 3v.

Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Wind Gap, Pa.’s Frank Cozze; Phillipsburg, N.J.’s Jack Butler; Jackson, N.J.’s Kevin Borden; Jackson, N.J.’s Dakota Kessler; and New Gretna, N.J.’s Paul Mancini completed the top five.

Twenty-five Modifieds signed in for competition.

Heat winners were Pauch Jr., Hendrickson, and Buffalino.

Tuckahoe, N.J.’s Buddy Schweibinz worked quickly from the fourth starting spot to take the lead on lap five for the first win of the season with the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series at New Egypt Speedway.

The race didn’t come without a fight however, as Newfield, N.J.’s Eddie Wagner remained in the picture as the runner-up car throughout the 25-lap affair.

“The track was really good,” Schweibinz explained. “You could pretty much run wherever you wanted, especially in clean air, so that helped us.”

Wagner settled for the runner-up spot with Bridgeton, N.J.’s Tim Iulg; Honey Creek, Pa.’s Jeff Paulson; and Warminster, Pa.’s Tim Tanner Jr. completing the top five.

The Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars (NEWS) put on a great show, with Taunton, Mass. driver Mick D’Agostino outlasting last week’s winner Shea Wills for the victory.

D’Agostino, just like Schweibinz, started in fourth and raced his way into the lead on lap five. It was Wills, however, keeping D’Agostino honest in the late stages.

The defending speedway champion was up to the task though, picking up his first win of the season.

Wills came home second, with Joe Kata, Ron Pavia, and Rich Mellor rounding out the top five.

Southampton, N.J.’s Bob Drayton came from the 11th starting position to win the Four Cylinder main event, which was 25 laps with an extra $200 on the line for the winner presented by Mr. Bob’s Portable Toilet Services.

Drayton, the owner of Mr. Bob’s Toilet Services, didn’t want to keep the $200 to himself, however. After a random draw, the seventh-place finisher, Penny Dunn, received the extra $200.

Drayton slipped by Justin Dunn in the late stages to pick up the victory. Mike Fox, Joe Garey, and Kelly Fleming completed the top five.

Nine Vintage cars also took part in an exhibition for a blast from the past at New Egypt Speedway.

Racing continues this coming Saturday, May 17, with Fan Appreciation Night at New Egypt Speedway.
