Bridgeport’s Ice Less 602 Sportsman, Insta Signs Plus Street Stock and Four Cylinders were joined by USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints and DCB’s Plumbing & Heating Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) for a full night of Saturday night action sponsored by Melton Industries.  The XCEL 600 Modifieds also returned for a night of action.

Matt Peck raced to his third win of the season in the Ice Less 602 Sportsman.  Rookie graduate, PJ Bozowski led the first eight laps before Jesse Hill took the lead on a lap nine restart.  Peck raced in second on lap ten and applied some pressure to Hill on several occasions.  A lap seventeen restart put Hill and Peck side-by-side for the green and that’s when Peck made his move.  Peck came out of turn four with the lead.

Jesse Hirthler was also on the move as he passed Hill for second with little more than five laps to go.

Peck raced to the win over Hirthler and point leader,  Joe Toth whose late race charge resulted in a third place finish.  Jesse Hill finished fourth followed by Jax Yohn.  Trent Willey in a new No. 17, Jimmy Wyers, Ronnie Solomon, Jimmy Leiby and Jordan Henn completed the top ten.  Both Leiby and Henn made their first Bridgeport starts with Henn filling the seat of the Dave Adams No. 37.

The USAC East Coast Wingless Sprints made their first Bridgeport appearance of the season and Mount Pocono, PA driver, Joey Amantea made it a clean sweep after winning both his heat race and feature where he lapped up to the fifth place car.

Ed Aiken led the first three laps before Amantea picked his way through the top five to challenge for the lead.  Once out in front, Amantea drove away from the field.  “I basically raced like someone was on my back bumper,” Amantea stated.

There was plenty of action from second to fifth as Aiken battled among Steve Drevicki, Bobby Butler, Christopher Allen and Ronald Helmick.

Amantea raced to the non-stop twenty-five lap victory over Drevicki, Butler, Aiken and Allen.  Helmick finished sixth followed by Thomas Radivoy, David Swanson, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. and Mick D’Agostino.

Amantea used the night as a final shakedown before he heads to Indiana Sprint Week.

A good field of cars turned out for this event with drivers coming from as far away as Massachusetts and West Virginia.

DJ Tanner led from the green to the checkered to claim his first Bridgeport victory in MASS competition and became the first repeat winner in the 305 Sprints.  Eleven different drivers have won MASS feature events so far this season.

Cousins, Kenny Laureno and DJ Tanner made up the first row of the feature line-up with Tanner grabbing the lead on the start.  Tanner did it two times on two complete restarts before the first lap could be scored.

Jeff Paulson quickly moved up to second followed by Troy Betts and Buddy Schweibinz.  Schweibinz raced into third around halfway and set his sights on Paulson.  Schweibinz took over second after racing with Paulson for two circuits just before the five to go sign.

With three laps to go, Schweibinz slowed with a suspected driveline issue.

Tanner raced to the checkered over Paulson and Betts.  Kevin Nagy raced to a fourth place finish after starting at the back of the field.  Laureno finished fifth for his best result of the season.  Dave Brown, Cody West, Dan Leaper, Rick Stief and  RJ Panella completed the top ten.

Unlike many of his competitors, Tanner had no prior racing experience prior to this 2022 season with MASS.  No quarter midgets, go karts or micros but he was named as the MASS Rookie of the year that season.

Mike Hughes started from the outside of the front row and raced to is eighth win of the season in the Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks.  Gary Bozowski chased Hughes all the way to the checkered to finish second over Christopher Allen, Sr., Scott Freed and Nick Sandone, III.

It was win number six for Eric Degler in the Four Cylinder main event.  Lee Allen finished second followed by Roger Kummerer, Jim Backowski and Jon Parker.

Korey Inglin was the winner of the Xcel 600 Modified feature event over Bobby Butler and Tyler Fronina.

By Rev Don Rivers Talk to me, not about me. We live in a world that provides many different ways to communicate with one another, but have we really stopped to talk with someone lately? Do we depend on electronic devices to take the place of face to face communication? […]
