– Leaty out duels Lutz and Emerling in Thursday Night Sprint at the Buffalo Half-Mile –

LANCASTER, NY (June 27, 2025) – In a thrilling Thursday night showdown at Lancaster MotorplexMike Leaty of Williamson, NY, powered his way back to victory lane, capturing his first career win in the prestigious Ol’ Boy Cup IX as part of the Race of Champions Modified Series.

The event, a throwback-style 60-lap sprint, delivered a classic short track battle with intense action throughout the field. Leaty, who started 9th, methodically worked his way forward, eventually taking the lead and fending off the hard-charging Jake Lutz of Hamburg, NY, and Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, NY, in the closing laps.

“This was big for us tonight,” stated Leaty in victory lane. “We’ve worked hard as we struggled last season. I have to thank my family and my Dad for their help. All of the guys on the crew for busting their butts — this win means a great deal to me and we’re happy to be here. We’ve got something to work with now.”

The win marks a significant milestone in Leaty’s return to form for the 2025 season.

Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, NY, finished fourth, with Jack Ely of Northampton, PA, rounding out the top five.

Jankowiak also earned fast time honors in green-white-checker qualifying and joined Leaty and Lutz as qualifying race winners earlier in the evening.
