HAGERSTOWN, MD – Octoberfest returns.

For the first time in 14 years, the famed ‘Octoberfest 150’ returned to Hagerstown Speedway with four drivers etching their name in history books with 2025 victories.

Saturday

Matt Sheppard topped the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled by Sunoco Modified 50-lap event, the championship round of the NJ Quality Drywall South Region.

Sheppard pocketed $7,000 for the victory and an additional $10,000 as the South Region title winner.

Joe Toth became the first-ever ‘Octoberfest’ STSS Sportsman winner, earning $2,000 for his efforts in the Belmont’s Garage South Region finale.

Delaware’s James Hill earned his first STSS Sportsman South Region championship.

Savannah, N.Y.’s Sheppard, who drove through the night from Brockville, Ontario, launched off the pole and led the entire 50-lap event for his second ‘Octoberfest’ victory and first in the event since 2004.

Sheppard survived a slew of challengers on the wide and smooth red clay half mile, the latest of which was 13th-starter Alex Yankowski.

The Covington Township, Pa., driver threw turn one slide job attempts at Sheppard, but ultimately settled for the runner-up pay in the Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts No. 84Y.

Anthony Perrego of Walden, N.Y., drove Vinnie Salerno’s No. 4 from 17th starting position to complete the podium.

Front-row starter Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., finished fourth and Mike Gular of Boyertown, Pa., advanced from 15th to finish fifth with his spec small-block. He earned a $200 bonus courtesy of the Algonkin Motel.

Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Rocky Warner of Johnstown, N.Y., in the Jason Simmons Racing No. 98; 21st-starter Danny Bouc of Pipersville, Pa.; Tyler Dippel of Wallkill, N.Y., recovering from an opening lap spin that dropped him to the rear;  Matt Stangle of Neshanic Station, N.J., who stopped for the Dippel spin and drove through the field; and Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr., who earned a top-10 after a right-rear flat tire while in second.

Sheppard was the ATL Racing Fuels Hot Lap Hero earning $100 for his lap of 20.539 seconds.

Heat winners were Rick Laubach, Ryan Krachun, Sheppard and Dippel.  Stangle topped the B-Main.

Thirty-six STSS Modifieds signed into the pit area.

Upper Makefield, Pa.’s Toth dominated the 30-lap STSS Sportsman event. Toth led all 30 laps in a caution-free program after starting from the outside pole.

Second-generation driver Matthew Laubach started fourth and chased Toth’s CJS Racing No. 9 across the line for a remarkable second-place finish. New Jersey’s Rick Wegner Jr. completed the podium in third with the Maher Racing ride, followed by Delaware’s James Hill, whose fourth-place finish was good enough to secure the STSS Sportsman Belmont’s Garage South Region title and seventh-starter Steve Davis of Cream Ridge, N.J.

Ryan Graver was the JLR Technologies Hot Lap Hero at 21.625 seconds.

Heat winners were Graver, Hill, Davis and Wegner. Adam White and Dylan Madsen split the B-Mains.

Forty STSS Sportsman signed into the pit area.

Friday

Danny Bouc of Pipersville, Pa., swept past Paul Mancini and went on to win the 30-lap Spec Small-Block 35-lap event on Friday night at Hagerstown Speedway to open the ‘Octoberfest 150’ return.

New Jersey’s Mancini took advantage of his pole starting spot to pace the race’s first 17 laps before Bouc took over a lead he would not relinquish in the Craig and Leslie Pondish-owned No. 6.

Bouc earned $4,000 for his victory, a first ‘Octoberfest’ checkered.

Sixth-starter Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa., drove the Doug Flurer No. 16 to a runner-up finish.

Mancini settled for third, followed by Ryan Krachun of Neshanic Station, N.J. and Billy Osmun of Milford, N.J.

Heat winners were Jared Umbenhauer, Mancini and Steve Davis. Rick Laubach won the consolation with 32 cars on hand.

Fall Clash Super Late Models produced a thrilling 35-lap main and Trever Feathers of Winchester, Va., powered to a $6,000 victory after starting in eighth position. Feathers passed Mason Zeigler with nine laps remaining.

Zeigler, of Chalk Hill, Pa., finished second, followed by York, Pa.’s Rick Eckert, Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., and Ross Robinson of Georgetown, Del.

Eckert kicked off the night with the quickest lap in time trials.

Heat winners for the 31 Super Late Models were Robinson, Matt Sponaugle, Feathers and Kenny Moreland.

Eckert won the 6-lap Dash. The B-Main went to Logan Zarin.

One more event remains on the 2025 STSS schedule: this Thursday, Oct. 23 at N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway with the ‘Hard Clay Finale’ for the HYTORC of New York Modified North Region, 50 laps offering $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green flag.
