GEORGETOWN, DE – A refreshed, refurbished Georgetown Speedway is taking shape.

The Sussex County half-mile oval, which first hosted auto racing in March 1950, has seen widespread facility improvements this off-season in preparation for the 2023 campaign, starting Friday, April 7 with the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series opener plus Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars.

Track crews temporarily removed the inside barriers and began the process of carving 25 feet inward on the infield of each corner. The speedway will operate as a four-tenths-mile oval in ’23.

An all-new, state-of-the-art catch fence has been installed in freshly poured concrete down the track’s front stretch, enhancing both safety and visibility for fans.

The former flag stand from Dover Motor Speedway in Dover, Del., has been set in place on the frontstretch.

A set of additional aluminum bleachers is on-site, and assembly has started.

Crews have been working overtime at the Sussex County facility as the first on-track action of 2023 approaches in April. The traditional March openers were scrapped this season to allow the improvement projects to be completed.

The Friday, April 7 Grand Reopening features Modifieds in a $3,000-to-win, 25-lap opener, plus the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars (25 laps), Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.

The event kicks off the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points for both the Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman.

Pit Gates open at 4 p.m., with grandstand gates unlocked at 5 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:20 p.m. and the first green flag waves at 7:15 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25. Seniors (ages 65 and above) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $20. Kids (ages 9-12) pay $10. Children 8 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $40 (ages 13 and up), $35 for NASCAR members, $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

The first on-track activity is slated for Tuesday, April 4 with Open Practice from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Grandstand admission is FREE. Pit admission is $30 (ages 13 and up), $25 for NASCAR members, $10 for Kids (ages 9-12) and Children 5 and under pay $2.
