Back Home: 105 Cars Attend Fonda Practice, Season Opener April 22
FONDA, NY – Back home.
The Fonda Speedway faithful returned to the Track of Champions on Saturday afternoon for a three-hour Open Practice. A total of 105 race cars took to the smooth and fast half-mile clay oval prepared by Craig Hanson.
Divisions represented included Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Below Zero Ice Cream Pro Stocks, Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Fonda Fair Four Cylinders, 360 and 305 Sprint Cars, Street Stocks, IMCA-Modifieds and Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds.
Attention now turns to the Montgomery County Open in memory of Jumpin’ Jack Johnson this Saturday, April 22. The event honors Duanesburg, N.Y.’s iconic Jack Johnson, Fonda Speedway’s all-time leading Modified victor who passed away in April 2021.
$12,000 – in recognition of Johnson’s trademark No. 12A – awaits the Amsterdam Truck Center Modified winner after 40 laps of racing, with $1,000 reserved for the 10th-place finisher and $400 just to take the green flag.
More than $30,000 in purse money has been posted for the event: 1) $12,000; 2) $5,000; 3) $2,500; 4) $1,750; 5) $1,500; 6) $1,250; 7) $1,200; 8) $1,150; 9) $1,100; 10) $1,000; 11) $700; 12) $600; 13) $500; 14-24) $400.
Modifieds will utilize sail panels for this event and 25 show-up points will be offered to all competitors. NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points will be awarded.
The American Racer tire rule is as follows: Right-Rear: American Racer SD 50 or 56 only; Left-Rear American Racer SD 48 only; Right-Front: American Racer SD 48 only; Left-Front: any American Racer tire.

Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Below Zero Ice Cream Pro Stocks, Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders will all compete in points-paying events.
Gates open at 2:30 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $25 (Adults), $23 (Seniors ages 65 and over) and Kids 11 and under are FREE.
Infield drive-in admission is $120 and includes four passes. A registration link will be placed on the speedway website and social media prior to the event. Drive-in vehicles must enter from 2:30-5 p.m.
Pit admission is $45 (Non-Member), $40 (NASCAR or Fonda Member), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.
Saturday’s event – and all races at Fonda Speedway – will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) as part of the $150 annual subscription.
Since 1953, the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway has hosted the best in stock car racing. Under the management of BD Motorsports Media LLC, the speedway will operate weekly on Saturday nights from April through August plus several special events.
