FONDA SPEEDWAY 2020 OPENER WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY

FONDA, NY – The 2020 season at Fonda Speedway will have to wait until May.

Following a virtual Fonda Fair Board meeting, held via Conference Call on Wednesday evening, it was announced no activities would take place on the fairgrounds during the month of April – including auto racing – to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As a result, the 2020 Season Opener at the Track of Champions will be postponed until Saturday, May 2.

The season had been slated to kick-start on April 11 with Open Practice, followed by back-to-back racing events on April 18 and 25.

As stated previously by the BD Motorsports Media LLC management team, this is an unprecedented and constantly changing situation. Make-up dates will be scheduled as needed with the full support of the Fonda Fair Board.

“We need to let this whole situation play out,” speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “Once we get the ‘green light’ to go racing, we will make schedule adjustments to ensure our season pass holders, marketing partners, fans and competitors are able to enjoy the ‘Track of Champions’ as frequently as possible.

“No one is more anxious to go racing then us (the Fonda promotional group). We made a $65,000-plus investment in the new surface. We can’t wait to put race cars on it and see the results.”

Keep posted to the speedway website and social media channels for further information.

FONDA SPEEDWAY RACE CAR SHOW CANCELED FOR THIS WEEKEND

ONDA, NY – The 2020 Fonda Speedway Race Car Show to be held at the ViaPort Rotterdam March 27-29 has been canceled due to the current regulations in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fonda Speedway management team was set to host its first-ever ‘Fonda Race Car Show’ at the mall and the response had been overwhelming. At the time of the cancelation, some 91 vehicles had filed an entry to be part of the pre-season event.

“Unfortunately, with the regulations in place as we all combat COVID-19, we’ve had to cancel the event,” Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “We’d like to thank all our registrants and the management of the ViaPort Rotterdam for all their support. We look forward to another opportunity to present a show in 2021.”

Fonda Speedway management will continue to monitor national and local regulations, providing updates as needed. The season is scheduled to open on April 11 with the first practice session on the all-new clay surface.

“We will announce any schedule adjustments as we get closer to the season,” Deyo added. “We have full support of the Fonda Fair Board for make-up events, if-needed. Our main concern now is keeping our racing community healthy.”

“ONE FREE FRIDAY” SETS UP HUGE FONDA CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND IN AUGUST

FONDA, NY – It’s only appropriate the ‘Track of Champions’ should host a larger-than-life Championship Weekend.

Now, it’s got one.

The BD Motorsports Media LLC Fonda Speedway management team has announced a huge two-day weekend in August to bring down the curtain on the ‘regular season’ at the half-mile track.

An unprecedented “FREE Friday” will take place on FRIDAY, Aug. 14 at the speedway. This event offers TOTALLY FREE grandstand admission, with the Sunoco Modifieds racing for $4,000 to win, Swagger Factory Apparel in a $2,000-to-win program and the traveling CRSA Sprint Cars on the docket.

Once again, this event is TOTALLY FREE to attend for fans.

While this will not be a track points event, drivers will accrue points toward the American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco Race Fuels overall, regional and track battles. Modifieds and Sportsman will draw for their starting positions for this event.

“We are thrilled to offer fans a totally free Friday event,” Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “We are very appreciative of the fan support we have received at Fonda. This season we have a Dollar Night (May 9), two $5 nights (June 6 and Aug. 1) and now a completely FREE Friday night.”

The “FREE Friday” will be the first of two racing events at Fonda that weekend.

On Saturday (Aug. 15), season champions will be decided in all of Fonda’s divisions: the Sunoco Modifieds, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks, Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Roberts Towing & Recovery Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Cruisers and the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds.

Benjamin Moore Paints is the Saturday program presenting sponsor.

The Saturday event offers the typical $11 Grandstand Admission for Adults, meaning fans could see two complete shows for just 11 bucks on Championship Weekend!

Of course, overnight camping will be available on the fairgrounds for these two days of racing.

The entire ’20 schedule has been posted on the Fonda Speedway website at: http://www.thefondaspeedway.com/2020-schedule-of-events/

Season passes for both the grandstand and pit areas and pit licenses are on sale. Access the forms at the following link: http://www.thefondaspeedway.com/forms/

The unofficial kickoff to the Fonda Speedway 2020 season takes place at the Via Port Rotterdam March 27-29 with the Fonda Speedway Race Car Show during mall hours.

The resurfaced Fonda oval will see its first on-track action on Saturday, April 11 with an open practice session. Gates open at 2 p.m. with rounds of practice beginning at 4 p.m.

The official Season Opener is planned for Saturday, April 18 featuring the Sunoco Modifieds, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks and Roberts Towing & Recovery Street Stocks kick-starting their points season.
