Riverhead, NY July 13th

By Bob Finan

For a second consecutive week, mother nature prevailed at Riverhead Raceway postponing the July 13th program that was to include the first School Bus Demolition Derby of 2024. That was the bad news, the good news came when track management announced the complete July 13th race card, complete with the Bus Demo would shift to Wednesday August 7th. Saturday night racing resumes next Saturday night July 20th, featuring the annual Monster Truck Night of Destruction.

“Crumby deal” track GM John Ellwood dejectedly noted on a wet Saturday morning, ” the rain that fell last night, coupled with more rain early this morning, has the infield holding water as is the access road. Add to that, every weather model we looked at couldn’t pinpoint a time as to when it eventually would end. We decided to move the show to Wednesday August 7th”. Joining the postponed School Bus Demolition Derby on August 7th are the TK Tommy Kraft Figure Eights, Super Pro Trucks, Street Stocks, Bock Auto INEX Bandoleros, a 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro, plus the JuiceBox Racers.

The annual Monster Truck Night of Destruction is up next at the track Saturday July 20th as Jack Brady of KSR Motorsports assembles an all-star cast of performers. Complimenting the car crushing excitement are the Late Models, Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, Blunderbusts, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Truck Enduro, 8-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro and a Kids Big Wheel Race. Opening ceremonies are at 6:30, proceeded by qualifying.
