Jimmy Phelps vaults to third after runner-up finish

Keep up with the chase for the 2024 Super DIRTcar Series championship.

Current Points Leader: After falling out of the top 10 late in the race, Matt Sheppard rebounded to finish ninth in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. However, with Mat Williamson finishing third, he cut Sheppard’s points lead to 15 points with three races remaining at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. 

Movers:  

Jimmy Phelps (+2): Jimmy Phelps’ drive from ninth to second at Super DIRT Week vaulted him back to third in the Series standings. If the Baldwinsville, NY driver holds onto his position after World Finals, he’ll finish third for the third consecutive season.

Tim Sears Jr, (-1): Tim Sears Jr. dropped a spot to fourth in points after finishing 21st in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. The finish ended a streak of four consecutive top fives dating back to the Ron Martin Summer Nationals at Ransomville.

“Timmer” is five points behind Phelps entering Charlotte.

Anthony Perrego (-1): Anthony Perrego’s streak of three consecutive top five runs ended at Super DIRT Week after running out of fuel late in the race and finishing 16th. Despite the finish, the Montgomery, NY driver sits fifth in points, nine points behind Sears and 14 points behind Phelps.

Jack Lehner (+1): Jack Lehner had a Super DIRT Week to remember after finishing fifth in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200, his best finish at “Racing’s Biggest Party.” The top five vaulted the “Ginga Ninja” to seventh in the standings, 26 points ahead of Darren Smith. 

Darren Smith (+1): Smith moved up a spot to eighth after earning a sixth-place finish last Saturday night. It was the Binghamton, NY, driver’s fifth top 10 of 2024 and first in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200.

Felix Roy (-2): The 2023 Super DIRTcar Series Rookie of the Year dropped two spots in the standings to ninth after finishing 20th. He’s still in line for his best finish in the Super DIRTcar Series standings after finishing 13th last year.
