Thaw Brawl Modified feature to pay $4053 to win. $1053 to 602 Crate Sportsman and $453 to Roadrunner winners + Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman
(Forestville, PA 2-20-25) The 3/8-mile Big Diamond Speedway near Pottsville will begin its 53rd season of racing on Friday evening, April 4, with the Thaw Brawl. Race time is set for 7:15 pm.
The main event for the evening will be the Quandel Concrete 358 Modifieds competing in a 25-lap feature with a winning prize of $4053.
Also on the card will be the track’s regular divisions including the USS Achey Inc., 602 Crate Sportsman Modifieds racing in a 20-lap main with $1053 as the top payout along the Red White and Blue Autos Inc., Roadrunners going 20 laps and awarding the victor $453. Rounding out the night will be the Big Creek Concrete 602 Crate Sportsman in a 15-lap feature.
Last season the Thaw Brawl was postponed after rain put an end to the scheduled opening night’s action just shortly after the second Modified consi was on track. The race was deferred until May 3, and it would turn out to be a very poplar family affair in Victory Lane as Ryan Watt held of his son, Logan, for the $4052 victory and his 11th career Big Diamond Speedway win.
On April 26, defending Roadrunner champion Chuck Fayash started 2024 the same way he ended 2023, by parking his car in the Victory Lane and claiming the Thaw Brawl win.
May 17 was the Rookie class make-up feature and Makenize Smith not only won the Thaw Brawl but which would be here career first dirt Modified victory, but she also came right back out and won the regularly scheduled feature as well.
The 602 Crate Sportsman Modifieds did not get their portion of the Thaw Brawl in until May 31, but it would be a date that will forever be etched in the mind of Colin Cox as it was his very first Modified win.
Now the attention turns to the first Friday in April and the 2025 edition of the Thaw Brawl. And as always is the case opening night draws much anticipation being the first race of the new season and an aura of excitement fills the air as some of the most dedicated fans in short track racing know that the wait of the off-season is over and it’s time to get down to business of cheering on their favorite drivers who are just as stoked to get back into action.
Pit gates will swing open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30 pm. Hot laps will begin at 7:15 followed by heats. All heat starting spots will be set by random draw. Pit admission is $35 for Big Diamond Speedway members and $45 for all non-members. Adult general admission is $20 and kids 16 and under are admitted for free.
The 358 Modifieds and 602 Crate Sportsman will redraw the top-12 for their respective feature starting line-ups. The Roadrunners will also have a redraw, however, that number in dependent on the car count. The Rookie division, which only contests in a feature and no heats, will pick their starting spots at sign-in.
One week prior to the Thaw Brawl the speedway will host an open practice session on Sunday, March 30, from noon to 4:00 pm. The practice is open to any car with a roll-cage.
Coming up on Friday, April 11 will be the Fritz Roehrig Memorial/Money in the Mountains on Dukmen’s Enterprise Night. Up for grabs is $10,000-to-win the 50-lap 358 Modified feature while the 602 Crate Sportsman and will battle for $1000-to-win. The Roadrunners and Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman are also on the card.
