Riverhead, NY June 7th

By Bob Finan

After dodging wet weather that has plagued racing venues throughout the Northeast in May, Riverhead Raceway fell victim to the wet stuff for the second consecutive week Saturday. With weather models indicating rain chances of 50% and above through the day and into the evening, track management made the call at 7:00 am to cancel the race program in an effort to save race teams a trip to the track.

The School Bus race scheduled for Saturday evening moves to the Saturday June 21st program while the remainder of the June 7th race program utilizes the Sunday July 27th rain date. Moving to the Sunday matinee will be the 50-lap NASCAR Modified event joined by the Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, Blunderbusts, INEX Legend Race Cars, INEX Bandoleros, 4/6-Cylinder Enduro and a Kids Big Wheel Race. A race day itinerary for July 27th will be released closer to race day, but it’s expected to be close to what was used for the June 1st rain date.

Next Saturday the stars of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour invade Riverhead Raceway for the Miller Lite Salute to Steve Park 200. Complementing the 200 will be the Super Pro Trucks, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and round two for the Eddie Partridge Vintage All Stars.
