A win is a win, and Danny Sams III will forever be included in the Kubota High Limit Racing history books as a winner.
Leading at the time of Lap 10, when a downpour engulfed Bridgeport Speedway, Saturday’s race was called complete and the 23-year-old North Port, Florida native was officially declared the feature winner for a $12,000 payday.
Sams’ path to his first-career Whiskey Myers Victory Lane trip came through a second-place qualifying effort, heat race transfer, and second-place finish in the FK Rod Ends Dash, which put the #24D on the outside pole of the feature.
Giovanni Scelzi led the opening seven laps aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7BC before lap traffic tightened things up in a hurry and allowed Sams to sneak into the lead on Lap 8. Right about that time, the rain began to come down in a hurry and caution was called on Lap 10 of 30.
After already waiting out an hour-long delay prior to the A-Main starting, the race was deemed complete following the final drenching from the skies.
The win marked the culmination of a long and trying year for the Randerson Racing team, currently 13th in the championship standings and fourth in the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Rookie of the Year chase.
Danny’s win was made even sweeter by the fact that his father, Danny Sams Jr., and his mother, Tina Sams, have been by his side all year long not only as his parents, but also his crew members.
After leading the opening seven laps, Giovanni Scelzi officially finished in second-place, making it back-to-back runner-up finishes for the NOS Energy Drink #7BC team.
Pennsylvanian Brent Marks rounded out the podium before heading to his home state tomorrow.
Brad Sweet, Rico Abreu, Aaron Reutzel, Justin Peck, Daison Pursley, Justin Whittall, and Brock Zearfoss closed out the top-10.
