Riverhead, NY Sept. 28th
By Bob Finan
It was a busy Championship Sunday at Riverhead Raceway with nine feature events clicked off under sun splashed skies. Jarrod Hayes of Calverton won his third Street Stock event of 2025, while Ryan Zukowski of Riverhead collected his second Mini Stock victory in convincing fashion.
Alyssa Paprocky and Jarrod Hayes brought the Street Stock to green with Alyssa gaining the advantage early over Hayes, who on lap 3 would lose second to Danny Pizzo. In fact, Hayes, stuck on the outside faded further back in the top five in the 30-lapper. Pizzo chased Paprocky until he was passed by championship contender Brian Brown on the 12th circuit and Brown wasn’t done there as he moved by Paprocky for the lead on lap 14 with an inside pass. After fading early, Hayes found a new life as the race neared the halfway mark, racing by Paprocky for second on lap 16 and setting sail for race leader Brown. With Hayes all over his back bumper, Brown was in a conundrum, should he race hard for the win and risk losing the championship or take the conservative role. On lap 18 racing down the backstretch Hayes slipped under Brown who seemingly conceded the lead for the big picture. In fact moments later Brown lost second to Pizzo for a spell before rallying back late in the race to reclaim the spot.
When the checker flag waved Jarrod Hayes crossed the line with the North Fork Sanitation Chevy first earning his 7th career Street Stock win, admitting “I didn’t want to push Brian too hard, I was aware he’s racing for a title, but I wanted the win”. Brian Brown of Calverton was runner-up, enough to clinch his second career championship in the Eastport Feeds Chevy, afterwards announcing it was his last race. “I told my wife Jamie this was it this year, she said, well that’s okay but go win the championship if you are serious about retiring” Brown disclosed in victory lane. Danny Pizzo of Holbrook completed the podium with his sponsor wanted Chevy. Brandon Hubbard of Mastic who was 4-points back of Brown entering Sunday’s final points race had to start last in the field after heat race issues, he rallied to a fifth-place finish, but his title hopes were dashed.
Since buying Tony Collinsworth’s Mini Stock Ryan Zukowski of Riverhead has been very fast in the class and on Sunday he dominated their 30-lap feature for his second win of 2025, bith coming over the last three races. All-time leading winner Joe Warren Jr. started on the pole and led the first 5 laps of the race, chased first by Chris Olivari and then Ryan Zukowski. On lap 5 exiting the fourth corner “The Z-Man” ducked under Warren to take the lead, while the early race leader began to struggle with an ill running Cavalier. With a non-stop race in the making Ryan Zukowski just drove away from the field in his Busy Bee Pest Control machine to earn his third career win in the class. Former champion Paul Wojcik of Patchogue made a late race pass to claim runner-up money in his Superior Business Solutions Prelude, Chris Olivari of Coram was third with his Middle Country Automotive racer. On the wings of a fifth-place finish CJ Zukowski, older brother to the race winner secured his second career Mini Stock championship in the Walls of Fame Cavalier.
The best way to clinch a seasonal championship is by winning the final race, and that’s exactly what Thomas Grattan of Southold did as he won the 15-lap INEX Bandolero Outlaw finale. Grace Cheslak led the first lap of the race before giving way to Grattan on the second circuit. Once Thomas had the Reeve Farm Stand Outlaw out front there was no looking back for the rising star who during the 2025 season made his Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modified debut. For Thomas Grattan it was his third win of 2025 earning him the 2025 championship. Tyler Oxee of Carmel, NY was runner-up after he raced his way to second on lap 8 with his North Fork Sanitation Outlaw, John Alaimo of Miller Place bright the Turf King entry home third.
Landon Solomito of Little Compton, RI scored his fourth INEX Bandolero Bandit win of 2025 just a couple day after securing the Seekonk Speedway championship on his 6th win of the year there Friday night. Wyatt Goodale and Blake Grattan led early in the tilt before Solomito came calling on lap 5 passing Grattan for the lead off the fourth corner. Once he had the Acme Sanitary Services Bandit out front Landon held a pretty wheel for the remainder of the race for another popular win. Mason Goodale of Riverhead who dominated victory lane early in the season was runner-up in the Riverhead Building Supply entry, Mackenzie Ulmet of Mattituck brought the Eastport Feeds Bandit home third. Emmett Grattan of Southold clinched his first career championship with his fourth-place finish in the IGA Market of Southold machine.
Kevin Grattan of Grattan Oil Services sponsored championship trophies for both the INEX Bandolero Bandits and Outlaws that were handed out post-race in the pit area.
Tyler Ross of Manorville won his third INEX Bandolero Beginner event of 2025 topping their 10-lap event. Mason Dickerson led the first two laps before being passed by Brody Solomito but would get the lead right back when Brody spun shortly after moving out front on lap 3. Dickerson led lap 4 over Tyler Ross who started fifth on the grid with Ross making an inside pass of Dickerson entering the third turn on lap 5 to take the lead. Once Tyler had the MC-11 Motorsports prepared machine out front he was able to stay there. Brody Solomito of Little Compton, RI roared all the way back to second and was closing on the eventual winner before settling for second in the John Blewett Scrap entry, Mason Dickerson of Southold was third in the Sea Tow Services mount earning him the 2025 Beginners championship.
JCR Motorsports, Jimmy & Angela Rennick provided trophies for all the INEX Bandolero Beginners acknowledging their early career accomplishments.
Phil LaManna of Smithtown notched yet another 40-lap Truck Enduro win Sunday in his EP Milling & Sweeping Chevy S-10. Returning veteran Gary Voight made a rare start in 2025 and would lead the first five laps of the race before the always fast Phil LaManna took the lead on lap 6. With Phil LaManna pulling away out front, Voight was busy later on in the race trying to keep second but would surrender the position late to Mariah Lawrence. When the checker flags waved Phil LaManna was facing another victory lane interview, something the soft-spoken driver is not a fan of. Mariah Lawrence of Southold was second on her Total Dental Care General Lee, Gary Voight of Medford brought the A. Voight Towing entry home third.
On the strength of his fourth-place finish, Kevin Feeney of East Quogue clinched the Truck Enduro championship in the Ham Racing Chevy. Having already repeated as the 8-Cylinder Enduro champion earlier in the day, Feeney becomes the first Enduro driver to win two championships in the same season since Shawn Wanat of Riverhead won the 4-Cylinder and 6-Cylinder titles in the same season before the two classes were combined.
In the 40-lap 8-Cylinder Enduro Ricky Carman of Ridge broke out to the race lead at the throw of the green and would proceed, albeit with some close calls to lead all the way for his first win of the season in the Long Island Muscle Car Garage entry. Championship contender Greg Harris chased Carman over the first 28 laps of the race before he was overtaken by Woot Lawrence of Southampton on the 29th cycle. By the time Woot, a former champion got to second Ricky Carman was too far out front to challenge and Lawrence in the Gregor Well Drilling Camaro held on for second. Kevin Feeney as mentioned earlier clinched the 8-Cylinder Enduro title with his third-place tally, successfully defending his 2024 championship.
Zach Tyler of Cutchogue salvaged his race season winning the 40-lap 4/6-Cylinder Enduro Sunday, for his first win of 2025. Starting third on the grid Tyler moved out front passing Eoughan Heyward on lap 2 for the lead. Once Tyler had the Miller & Caggiano Attorney at Law car out front he would proceed to lead the rest of the way. Heyward, Ryan Zukowski and John Palmeri all ran second to Tyler, with Palmeri in the J&J Towing racer eventually finishing second. That, coupled with David Olivari of Selden losing a door skin on lap 19 ending his race earned John Palmeri the 2025 4/6-Cylinder Enduro championship. Ryan Zukowski would cross the line third.
Kim Hyde of Riverhead made a bold second lap pass to take the lead in the 30-lap Ladies Enduro race to score her first career win. Denise Carman led the first lap with Jamie Brown second, after they completed the first lap the duo got together off turn two and Hyde saw an opening and darted by both for the lead and eventual win in the Trainsmoke Motorsports car owned by Justin Squires. Jamie Brown of Calverton was second in Woot Lawrence’s Camaro, Denise Carman of Port Jefferson third in her husband Richie’s machine.
