PERRY, N.Y. (October 4, 2026) — Mason Hanel of Clarence Center, N.Y., did what few drivers have been able to do this past season by passing Andrew Lewis, Jr., of Ontario, N.Y. this past Saturday at Wyoming County International Speedway “The Bullring” in Perry, N.Y. in “The Fall Shootout” to capture the 75-lap Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series feature
It was Hanel’s second victory of the season in the division and came at the Speedway closed out it’s 2026 racing campaign with the traditional event.
“We had a great car and I had some good help on the radio guiding me through things,” the young Hanel related from victory lane. “I need to thank my guys, my Mom and Dad and my Grandfather and everyone that supports us for giving me the opportunity to drive this car. The car was great all day and we were just able to get it done.”
Hanel started tenth and moved through the field following a couple of incidents. Meanwhile Lewis, who started on the pole dominated the early portions of the event before the battle for the top spot took place for several laps before he passed Lewis. Lewis remained in his tire tracks, but over time Hanel was just too strong and pulled away.
Lewis finished second with Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y., finishing third. Jake Christman of Walnutport, PA. and Chris Finocchario of Macedon, N.Y., rounded out the top-five.
Hanel, Lewis, Jr., Finocchario and Christman were the qualifying race winners. Hanel posted the fastest time in the final practice.
