It started off as a few guys getting together for lunch and watch the Daytona 500 at a small pub in Rocky Point. On Sunday February 20th, 2022 the Long Island Daytona 500 Party will celebrate 30-years of getting the racing community together to enjoy the Great American Race. The 2022 L.I. Daytona 500 Party reruns to The All Star of Riverhead featuring free admission.
“Who knew when my brother Timmy, Scott Lehmann, Bob Finan, myself and a few others got together at Gallagher’s Pub to have lunch and watch the Daytona 500 it would grow into a annual event that would last 30 years” Stephen Halpin, veteran announcer at Riverhead Raceway looked back. In those days the 500 had an early 12:00 noon start. Over three decades the venues may have changed from time to time but the one constant is the fun and comradery that still exists among attendees. Among the fun is the annual Daytona 500 Pools organized by Tim Halpin, two picks for $10 winner take all with numerous pools coming together prior to the start of the race. That tradition will march on at The All Star of Riverhead in 2022.
This week Connor Halpin, manager of The All Star announced the race specials. Bud Light and Coors Light priced at $3 for shorts, $5 for talls. All other drafts are priced at $5 for shorts, $7 for talls. Pitchers of Bud Light & Coors Light will be $12, all others $18. There will also be specials on buckets of beer, $15 for a Domestic bucket and $20 for a Import bucket. Buckets of hard seltzers will be $20, with $4 Green Tea shots.
During the race Connor disclosed there will be two additional specials. When guests order a Burger they will receive a free beer to compliment the meal and Wings will be 0.75 cents each with a minimum order of 10. New to the 2022 party will be the $7 “Tiger” Tom Baldwin White Russian drink special. While enjoying the food and drink race fans will watch the Daytona 500 on The All Star’s ‘wall of televisions’, sixteen 55′ TV’s combined on one wall. Fifteen big screen TV’s are also available to watch the 500.
While Tim Halpin organizes the annual Daytona 500 Pools, another pool following a Super Bowl Pool format will be organized by CJ Lehmann. One lucky winner will take home a big screen television. A 50/50 raffle and other giveaways will also return for the 2022 Long Island Daytona 500 Party, anyone who orders any entrée at the bash will receive a free raffle ticket towards giveaways per meal.
The All Star is located at 96 Main Road in Riverhead, just west of the route 105 intersection on the north side of the road. Doors will open at 12 noon, the FOX broadcast of the Daytona 500 starts at 2:30 pm.
