Riverhead, NY May 9th
By Bob Finan
Week two of the 2023 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series is set for this Saturday May 13th at Riverhead Raceway, with a School Bus Figure Eight race on Scout Night complimenting the exciting stock car program. Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz are calling all scouts by bringing back the popular Scout Night honoring scouting on Long Island. All Girl, Boy, Brownie & Cub Scouts and their troops in uniform will receive free grandstand admission to enjoy an action-packed night of thrills and spills.
The NASCAR Modified will contest their second 50-lap feature event of 2023 and be joined by the Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds and their 25-lap main event. The daring Figure Eight troops are back for another go competing in a 15-lap event while both the Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars compete in 20-lap feature events. Rounding out the stock car portion of the show will be a wall-to-wall brawl with the 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro racers. This past Saturday on opening night 135 race cars packed the pit area of Riverhead Raceway, including 42 INEX Legend Race Cars with more of the same expected for week two.
If the 15-lap Figure Eight feature event is not enough to keep the scout troops, their families and weekly spectators on the edge of the bleacher seats, just wait until the 13-ton School Buses roll onto the track after the Gut & Go race. The near misses and sometime not so near misses these huge buses that once transported students on Long Island provide is truly a sight to be seen in person.
Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm, qualifying is set for 5:15 pm with opening ceremonies approximately 6:15 pm. Adult admission is $30, kids 6-12 not in a scout uniform $15, 5 & under are free. The Scout Night program is valid only at the general admission gates, normal pit fees will be in place.
