WATERFORD – Fifteen SK Modifieds® took the green flag, and after the completion of lap 1, twelve of them were parked up to three high in turn 1. Troy Talman, Adam Gada, and Jeff Fialkovich were the only three competitors to meet up with the pace car in turn 3. After a lengthy and careful cleanup from the wrecker crew, the remainder of the event was suspended to later in the evening. When racing resumed, Talman set the pace as thirteen cars were able to return. Anthony Flannery put the pressure on Talman who admitted his handling was falling off, and by lap 8, Flannery checked out. The race finished without any further incident with intense battles scattered throughout the field. Most notably, Ryan Morgan’s return to the Speedbowl moving from Late Models to the premier division had him running in the top 5 for all of the event. Andrew Molleur worked by Morgan and Talman around halfway and set chase to Flannery but ran out of time. Flannery would win his second career SK Modified® feature event at the Speedbowl.
The Late Models also got off to a rocky start when a lap 2 incident wiped out defending champion Ray Christian III, Tyler Chapman, Emma Monahan, and Joey Lemay. When racing resumed, Charles Bailey III and Josh Hedges fought hard for the top spot, swapping positions for the first 11 laps. Bailey would get shuffled back as Hedges took control for a few more circuits when a hungry Jason Palmer worked his way into the lead, pulling Jordan Hadley with him. Meanwhile, Brody Monahan and Andrew Molleur were methodically picking their way through the field sending Hedges back a few more positions. Palmer cruised to the win in a race that finished without incident.
Adding to the theme of early race mayhem, there was a tumultuous start to the SK Lights, when a lazy green was thrown for a false start that ended the day of Tom Abele Jr. and Steve Kenneway before it even began. Take 2, and Zack Sangermano launched out front like he was shot from a cannon. Sangermano led the way with heavy pressure from John O’Sullivan and Isaiah Newcomb in the early stages. Newcomb kept trying to stick his nose underneath Sangermano in a battle that spanned the second half of the event, but he was just too strong in the outside groove. Newcomb would ultimately cross the line in second as Sangermano broke his bad luck streak.
Tommy Silva got off to the lead early in the Mini Stocks but by lap 6 he would relinquish the position to Jared Roy. Nobody was able to challenge Roy and he went on to win by a considerable margin. With Roy safely out front, an intense battle for the runner up position was underway with Silva, John Bavolacco, and Bill Syliva. Feel good story of the day was third place Sylvia, who had a tire blow out headed home the week before totaling his truck and damaging his race car. The community got together to help, and he was able to perform.
Fourteen INEX Legend Cars took to the track with Dennis Pantani and Riley Paul bringing the field to green. Paul got off to the early lead with self-dubbed ‘heat race hero’ Dylan Cote making an effortless pass on the outside for the lead. A few late race cautions include one that removed Paul from the equation put Cote in a tough position against Isaiah Newcomb, primarily, who has been on a hot streak lately. Jase Mongeon and Newcomb’s battle for second place gave Cote the opportunity to run for safety earning his first win of the season.
Chase Locke won the NEMA Lites and Randy Cabral won the NEMA feature, both were contested caution free.
