IN MEMORY OF CHARLES KEPLEY GROWS IN AWARDS AND HISTORY

NOVEMBER 3 & 4 AT CARAWAY SPEEDWAY

(Sophia, NC): When Charles Kepley set out to show the world there could be a “big-time” Modified event in the South, there were many skeptics. Not only did Kepley prove the skeptics wrong, but he also succeeded in promoting an event that even after his passing, continues to honor his dedication to the sport and the memory of John Blewett III, a two-time winner of the event.

Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC (near Asheboro, NC) is the home of the John Blewett III North-South Shootout. Darren Hackett, owner of the speedway and the rights to the NSS, continues to promote the event in honor of his friend Kepley and his love for the sport of Modified racing.

When Kepley first started the NSS, he ran several divisions with the Modifieds trying to find that niche that worked to showcase the Mods and other divisions.

The 2022 edition of the NSS finally settled on an event that showcased the Modified talent through a 125 lap feature for the Mods and a 50 lapper for the 602 Crate Modifieds that satisfied the thirst for open-wheel action.

That event also brought the “Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour” Championship Night into the NSS fold. Champions are crowned for the late Model Stock Cars (125 Laps) and the Pro Late Models (100 Laps), giving area race fans a chance to see the best of both forms of racing at one track in one day. Carson Kavpil and Brenden Queen are separated by only a few points in the LMSC Division while Caden Kavpil is only four points ahead of Rookie of the Year challenger, Katie Hettinger in the PLM chase.

The same quadruple header event format returns in 2023 with a $10,000.00 check to the winner of the Modified portion along with $6,527.00 in qualifying and bonus money up for grabs. Those bonuses do not include a $1,044.00 bonus for the highest finisher from either New Hampshire, Massachusetts or Connecticut or a $500.00 bonus for the longest tow. Lap money is also being solicited and will be announced soon.

Eight-time NSS Modified winner, Matt Hirschman, heads the list of early entries for the event. Two-Time NSS winner, Burt Myers and his brother Jason, John Smith, Caleb Heady and Brian Loftin head up the early entries form the South. Paterick Emerling, Ronnie Williams, J.R Bertuccio, Austin Kochenash and wonder-kid, Paul Hartwig III, are some of the early entries from north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

The John Blewett III Memorial “North-South Shootout” in Memory of Charles Kepley returns on November 4, 2023, to Caraway Speedway. For more information on the North-South shootout and other Caraway speedway action, check us out at www.carawayspeedway.com or at Caraway Speedway on Face Book or call the track at 336-629-5803 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
