AFTON, NY – For just the second time since 2009, the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals will not take place.
Officials from the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco, Afton Motorsports Park, and American Racer/Lias Tire have all agreed to cancel this weekend’s events.
With a significant forecast of rain on Friday night and throughout Saturday and a cool, damp Sunday rain date, the two-day weekend of racing for the ‘Working Man’ goes by the wayside.
“We hate to have to cancel this event,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “The SuperNationals Weekend is a staple of the STSS and where it all began for my promotional career.
“Unfortunately, this is just the way 2023 has gone for all of us in the Northeast.”
The only other cancellation of the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals event took place in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Afton Motorsports Park promoter Ron Ford hopes to add one additional race date before winterizing the facility.
All pre-paid camping spots will be refunded.
The American Racer Cup Match Races, scheduled for the SuperNationals weekend, will move to Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway for next weekend’s ‘Speed Showcase’ weekend.
The races will transition to a dash format to be announced in the coming days.
The Speed Showcase Weekend takes place Thurs.-Sat Oct. 12-14.
The three-day weekend features two STSS big-block/small-block Modified feature events – the latter of which pays $50,000 to the winner – a full show for the 410 Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars of Port Royal Speedway, a $4,000-to-win event for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, and a full program for the New York-based Pro Stock division.
Saturday’s headline event – a 75-lap event paying $50,000-to-win and $1,000-to-start – represents the Championship Round of the Ollie’s ‘Elite’ Series and Round No. 6 of the Rent Equip/Party Central South Region.
The crown jewel event is preceded by a full weekend of racing.

The entire weekend will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) as part of the annual subscription.
