SCHNECKSVILLE, PA – From concrete to clay.
Budding star Tanner VanDoren will join the contingent that will head to All-Tech Raceway for the ‘Sunshine Swing’ presented by Capitol Custom Trailers & Coaches.
The youthful Pennsylvania resident heads to Florida looking to add his name to the Modified win list for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco.
‘TVD’ has already earned a pair of Crate 602 Sportsman checkered flags: the first coming at Delaware International Speedway (Delmar, Del.) in August 2020 and the second at Ocala Speedway in Ocala, Fla., during the 2021 ‘Sunshine Swing.’
Fresh off a successful debut with the Indoor Auto Racing Series, VanDoren and team will head to Florida to kick off their outdoor campaign in the Charlie Lord-owned No. 01c.
“Moving to the dirt will definitely be a different ball game,” he said of the transition from his indoor season competing on concrete at Len Sammons Motorsports-promoted events. “But what we achieved has me feeling confident when we head down there.”
The teenager feels like he’s ready to tame All-Tech.
“I’ve started to feel pretty comfortable there,” he said of Wendell Durrance’s half-mile oval. “It’s definitely different than what we race up here and it’s even a different track from night to night when you race there.”
Team owner Lord has VanDoren equipped with a pair of Bicknell racecars. The primary car will have a Pro Power 430 cubic inch small-block under the hood with a big-block engine strapped in the back up machine.
“I’m hoping to run in the top-10 every night,” VanDoren proclaimed. “I think that’s a feasible goal and like I said, I feel comfortable there and I think I have a good chance of going there and running well.”
VanDoren’s STSS plans won’t end in Florida however, as the Keystone State driver says he’ll chase the NJ Quality Drywall South Region for the first time in his career.
“We’re going to run the whole South Region with our family-owned No. 22,” he explained. “The (River Valley Builders) North Region we’ll do things that make sense for us with Charlie’s car.
“Places like Fonda and Utica-Rome in New York,” he continued. “I would say running half of the North Region is a good goal for us.”
