Richmond, VA- Pre-race favorites to win tonight’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour- Justin Bonsignore, Ron Silk and 2023 winner Austin Beers topped the speed charts during final practice at the Richmond (VA) Raceway under sunny skies this afternoon.
Only 24 cars made laps during the session, with Tyler Rypkema, Melissa Fifield and Bryan Dauzat remaining in the pit area during the 30-minute session. Dauzat ran 37 laps in the first practice, paced by New Jersey driver Andrew Krause, but he appears to be out, leaving 26 cars to qualify for the 6:30 p.m. feature.
Rypkema placed third in the first practice, but his team decided to change the engine in his car. He has been among the lead cars in past races at Richmond. They expect to be ready to go, and be among the contenders in the event.
Doug Coby, Craig Lutz and Jake Johnson showed consistent speed in both practices, ranking among the top ten. Bobby Santos, Trevor Catalano and Eric Goodale each showed improvement during the final session.
Time trial qualifying is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the 150-lap feature going green around 6:30 p.m. The weather should not be too much of a factor, with cooling temperatures and decreasing winds as the evening progresses.
