LANCASTER, N.Y. (June 27, 2024) – Jack Ely from Northampton, PA scored his first career win at Lancaster Motorplex Thursday night in the Ol’ Boy Cup 60 for the Race of Champions Modified Series. Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY won the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stock feature. Brian Schulz from Lockport, NY made it a one-two-three finish for the Schulz family in the Mighty TQ Midget feature. Mason Offhaus from Lancaster, NY won the 4 Cylinder feature.
Tim Connolly and Jack Ely brought the Race of Champions Modifieds to the green for the Ol Boy Cup VIII with Ely showing the way over Andy Jankowiak, Connolly, George Skora III, and Austin Kochenash. Tim Conolly would break something in the right front to bring out the race’s first caution while racing inside the top five. On the restart, Ely would continue to lead Jankowiak, Skora, Kochenash, and Paulie Hartwig. Mike Leaty would work his way past Kochenash to move into fourth place, with Jake Lutz passing Hartwig to move into fifth place on lap eight. The lead trio of Ely, Jankowiak, and Skora would pull away from the field. Lutz would pass Leaty to take over fourth place. Chuck Hossfeld would go to the outside of Hartwig to take over sixth place on lap 17. Paul Townsend spun in turn four to bring out the caution. The caution would immediately come back out on the restart for a multi-car incident in turn one, collecting Lutz, Tony Hanbury, Jimmy Zacharias, and couple others. Following the restart, Chuck Hossfeld would battle with Skora for third place, as Jack Ely continued to show the way. Hossfeld would hold off several challenges from Hartwig, as Zane Zeiner would battle with Hartwig for fifth place. Hossfeld would get loose and would lose the fourth and fifth positions in consecutive laps past the halfway mark. Zeiner would pass Hartwig for fourth place on lap 37, with Jake Lutz working his way back through the field following a lap 17 incident. Skora would resume his battle with Jankowiak for second place with 15 laps remaining, with Zeiner reeling in both. Skora and Jankowiak would make contact coming off turn four to bring out the caution on lap 49, sending Skora to the rear of the field for contact. The lap 49 restart would see Ely and Zeiner on the front row, with Ely continuing to show the way. Ely would pull away over the final circuits to score the win, his first career win at Lancaster.
Mike Piccirilli and Mitch Friend led the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks to the green flag for their 25-lap main event, with Friend leading the opening circuit. Tommy Wentland would race his way to third place on lap five, and by lap nine, was up to second place, going after race leader Friend. Following a mid-race restart, Mark Hoch would make his presence felt, beginning by passing Wentland for second place, and with 10 laps remaining, would pass Friend coming down the front straightaway to take over the race lead. Hoch would hold off Friend and Mike Dalfonso to score the feature win. The victory for Hoch would be his 16th of his career, fourth all-time in the division’s history.
Brendan Wallace and Ronnie Flaim were on the front row for the Mighty TQ Midgets feature event with Wallace showing the way. Dave Wollaber would quickly work his way through the field and would take second away with three laps remaining. On the final lap, Wallace and Wollaber got together in turn three, and Brian Schulz would be credited the victory. Nephew Jacob Schulz would get second and Brian’s brother Mark would finish in third, making it a one-two-three finish for the Schulz family.
Mikey Place and Mason Offhaus brought the 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their 20-lap event, with Place showing the way. Early on, Offhaus and Place were exchanging the lead, and on lap 10, Offhaus would clear Place for good and would take command of the field. Kyle Casper would work his way through the field and would take over second just past lap 10 and would challenge Offhaus for the lead over the final circuits. In the end, it would be Mason Offhaus scoring his first career win at Lancaster.
Racing returns to Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, July 13 for Autograph Night featuring the Tour-Type Modifieds making their return to Lancaster. The Mods will be racing in a 40-lap sprint and will be joined by the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and the Mighty TQ Midgets. Racing will get underway at 6pm with practice getting underway at 4pm, with grandstands opening at 4 and pit gates opening at 2pm.
