Reacting to the recent rash of weather-related cancellations at Riverhead Raceway, track owners Connie Partridge & Tom Gatz made some bold schedule adjustments for the balance of August revealed Thursday morning. The Cecil Palm Tree 66 NASCAR Modified event set for Saturday shifts to an added Wednesday August 28th program, a 50-lapper will be contested Saturday. The added program August 28th starts the historic track on a run of seven shows over twenty-two days to close out the month, weather permitting of course.
“If a baseball player is not getting the hits they desire, they adjust their swing” an energetic GM John Ellwood boasted, “Tom Gatz played ball in school, and we are adjusting our swing” With the NASCAR Modifieds off Saturday August 24th for a School Bus Demo family fun night, Tom Gatz felt moving the Cecil Palm Tree 66, a race run in honor of his uncle Eddie Partridge to the added Wednesday August 28th date was a better fit. Adding some spice August 28th will be the National 4/6-Cylinder Stock Demolition Derby Championship, moving up three days from its original August 31st slot. Completing the race card are the Blunderbusts, INEX Legend Race Cars, Eddie Partridge Vintage All-Stars and 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro. Opening ceremonies are set for 6:30 pm, a Kids Big Wheel race will follow.
Tomorrow, the I Love America Night Fireworks presentation highlights a busy night of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series action with the NASCAR Modified 50-lap event taking center stage. Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, TK Figure Eights, INEX Legend Race Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and the Bock Auto INEX Bandoleros will combine for a total of nine main events. A Kids Big Wheel Race gets things going after opening ceremonies at 6:30 pm.
The balance of August finds the School Bus Demo and stock cars going to post Wednesday August 14th, the annual Baldwin Evans & Jarzombek, Wall of Champions Inductions Saturday August 17th, Monster Truck Back to School Spectacular and racing Wednesday August 21st., School Bus Demolition Derby and NASCAR stock cars Saturday August 24th. Closing out the month will be the added Wednesday August 28th show and the annual First Responders night Saturday August 31st.
Admission for all show is $30 for adults, kids 6-12 $20 5 & under free. The exception will be First Responders Night where 50% off general admission tickets is offered to First Responders with proper ID. The annual First Responders 4/6-Cylinder Enduro provides the excitement along with Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series stock cars.
