VERNON, NY – A decade and a half.
This weekend (Sept. 27-28), the Short Track SuperNationals celebrates its 15th running at Utica-Rome Speedway. The Home of Heroes becomes the fourth track in history to host the “Working Man’s Race” joining Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park, Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, N.Y., and Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y.
The Short Track SuperNationals made its debut in 2006 at Afton as a cost-effective option for teams not attending Super DIRT Week, then run on the Syracuse Mile. This year, the Super DIRTcar Series is scheduled to race in Ohio, opening the door for weekend warriors to cash in at Utica-Rome.
In 14 previous Short Track SuperNationals editions, there have been no repeat Modified winners: 14 events, 14 different drivers in Victory Lane.
A non-points Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco River Valley Builders North Region event, the SuperNationals is headlined by a 50-lap STSS Modified event offering $4,000 to win, $2,000 for 10th, $1,000 for 16th and $500 to start.
Racing is planned for Friday and Saturday nights.
On Friday (Sept. 27), the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman decide their 2024 Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region championship with a 25-lap, $2,000-to-win program.
Also on the Friday docket: CRSA Sprint Cars, Next Generation Graphix Pro Stocks, Online Performance Parts/Stone Motorsports Street Stocks, plus Allstar and Junior Slingshots on the inner oval.
STSS Modifieds will take part in three practice rounds on Friday night, two of which will be timed and grant guaranteed redraw positions for Saturday’s main.
On Saturday (Sept. 28), STSS Modifieds compete in heat races, consolations and a 50-lap main event. Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman, Fonda Fair SCDRA Four Cylinders and Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds complete the Saturday program.
Saturday’s program will be split, with Fonda Fair SCDRA Four Cylinder heats, Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman heats and the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified features kicking off at 3:45 p.m.
Modified hot laps hit the track at 5:45 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
