Jimmy Dunkleman III Wins 4 Cylinder Feature to kick off US Open Weekend

LANCASTER, N.Y. (September 23, 2024) – Jimmy Dunkleman III from Lancaster, NY won the 4 Cylinder feature on Lancaster’s ¼-mile to kick off night one of the 36th edition of US Open. Thanks to fan Josh Rapini, the 4 Cylinders raced for an unprecedented $500 to win. Qualifying heats were held for the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, won by George Skora III from Eden, Shawn Nye from Lancaster, and Tony Hanbury from Ontario, NY. The Monroe Extinguisher Street Stock qualifying races were won by Dan Dressel from Clarence, Dustin Novoa from Springville, and Tommy Wentland from Cheektowaga. The Late Model qualifying heats were won by Freedom, NY’s Eldon King III, and Amherst, NY driver Joe Mancuso.

Jimmy Dunkleman III and Jody Krieb were on the front row for the $500 to win 4 Cylinder feature, with Dunkleman in the lead ahead of Ben Adams, Hunter McKay, Chris Deyoe Jr, and Andy Danielwicz. Kyle Casper would work his way to sixth place on lap six and would go after Danielwicz for fifth place. The caution would come out on lap nine for Chase Metz, who came to a stop in turn four. The restart would see Dunkleman, Deyoe, McKay, and Casper all battling for the lead. Dunkleman would hold off Deyoe, McKay, Casper, and Russ Bulger Jr to score the feature win. 

Pit gates will open at 9am Saturday, with grandstands opening at 11am, and racing is scheduled to get underway at 1pm. The Tour-Type Modifieds will headline the Saturday portion with the 101-lap event (65th Anniversary + 36th edition of the race). The Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks, Late Models, Super Stocks, Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4’s and the Mighty TQ Midgets will all be action.  Procedures, rules, registration form, and schedule of events for the weekend are all available on our website at www.lancastermotorplexny.com/rules under the US Open section.
